"It Is"

www.boomkat.com Reviews

ITEM DETAILS FOR:
BLU RUM 13 - It Is
Jazz Fudge
12" // £4.99

Blu comes back after the dope Bullfrog album with his next Fudge 12" for cousin Vad. His unique semi basstone vocal here sticks to a straighter bop beat style while the lyrics confuse with many oblique references. The lyrics hold on to the attention so much it's real nice to hear the textures and mad drops present in the instro version. 'Figure It Out' has Scratch Prevert Mr Thing on the boards for a rollin dog head nod beat with more classy dope lyrics. A new remix of 'Sleep Sleepless' completes this 12" in top style.

"Vaguely Familiar"

BLU RUM 13 - Vaguely Familliar
Jazz Fudge
LP // £10.99

The long awaited Jazz Fudge debut album from Kid Koala's MC of choice Blu Rum 13 is with us now. A thirteen track opus on the mad outpourings of Blu's mind over the crispest hip hop. From the killer lowdown funked up dirty jazz of 'Yeast Confection' to the otherworldly alien dreamscape and call to mental arms of 'Open Shutters' which also boats some of the best cuts yet from the Mr. Thing. 'Basically' is diggedy dope, any track that starts with a cut up of KMD's classic 'Humrush' is fine with me. Kid Koala cutting while Thing holds the stone on stone beat, dope. Check this flow "smile in my presence, i'm bout to keep shit pleasent using my hip hop essence" on the ultra fresh blues joint 'A Point Named What'. This album is ultra fresh in every way.

"Vaguely Familiar / Smell the Urgency"

WWW.AMIESTREET.COM REVIEW

Amie Street is bringing you not one, but two albums from Washington D.C. based rapper Blu Rum 13: Vaguely Familiar and Smell The Urgency.

Vaguely Familiar foreshadows the experimental nature of Smell The Urgency featuring Blu Rum 13's signature lyrical style and quirky production. Letter Twenty Five begins with a sample of Eddie Murphy telling a joke about James Brown, Open Shutters is dark and jazzy, and Yeast Confection has a raw beat.

Smell The Urgency features artistic and experimental beats and production with playful introductions and samples throughout. On tunes like wobbly stiltz and deviantdiction, Blu Rum 13 showcases his laid back spoken-word influenced style. He also gets experimental on futuristic b-boys using beat-boxing as the foundation for the track.
