"Blushing Well: This Flesh I'M In"

King’s X and Pearl Jam collide on the second CD from America’s artsy Christian headbangers Blushing Well..... Add cryptic melodies, down-tuned guitars, dark arrangements and a vocalist (Joshua Redding) who often sounds uncannily like Ty Tabor, and you’ve got an intriguing record that should appeal to several different types of listener...... Christian music has too many pop-centric artists and post-hardcore metal bands these days, but precious few groups sound like Blushing Well.

"Blushing Well-This Flesh I'm In"

Originally reviewed in Italian:
THE BLUSHING WHEEL IS A BAND FROM CHAMBERSBURG, PA.
THERE IS NOT MUCH INFO ABOUT THE FACT, IF THE BAND IS FORMED BY ALL
BROTHERS OR A MIX OF COUSINS & BROTHERS, BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S GOT THE
SAME FAMILY NAME.
THE SOUND OF THIS COMBO OF STRIP & STRIPES IS REALLY MOTIVATED BY ART
ROCK.
AND ESPECIALLY IN "THIS FLESH AM I IN" BECOMES A VERY SOLID BRIDGE
BETWEEN PAST & MUSICAL PRESENT TIME, CAUSE THERE ARE NO LIMITATIONS
OF SOUNDS SONORITY FOR THE BLUSHING WHEEL, WHO REALLY LIKE TO MIX
STRONG ELECTRONIC SOUNDS OF KEYBOARDS WITH INFLUENCES AND AMBIANCES
FROM THE '70'S PROGRESSIVE ROCK.
AS FAR AS THE MESSAGE THAT COMES OUT FROM THEIR LYRICS IS OBVIOUSLY
OF STRONG CHRISTIAN IDEALS.
THE ART ROCK FROM THE BAND IN THIS CASE IS INTO THE HUMAN FRAILTIES
AND THE HOPE OF THE SAVING CHRIST, SORT OF A TRIP BETWEEN THE
WEAKNESSES AND THE FALLING OF THE PERSONS, WHO FINDS AT THE END OF A
TRIP, THE GOODNESS OF GOD.
MUSICALLY SPEAKING, WE ARE IN FRONT OF A HARD TO UNDERSTAND AS MUCH
AS IT IS EASY TO ENJOY THE MUSIC.
AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS YOU CAN BE A BIT CONFUSED TO WHERE THE
BAND WANTS YOU TO GO, BUT, WHEN THE BAND GETS INTO THE CENTER OF
THEIR MUSIC, IT'S THERE WHEN YOU REALLY GET THEIR POINT, WHICH IS;
FOR THEM, HAVING THIS EASY POSSIBILTY TO GO BACK AND FORTH IN THEIR
WORLD OF SOUND, WHICH BECOMES THEIR SIGNATURE IN FACTS OF THE MEANING
OF THE PROJECT AND THE TECHNICAL ASPECT CREATING AN EMOTIONAL CONTENT.
ABLE TO MAKE 'THIS FLESH I AM IN' A REALLY FULLY ENJOYABLE DISK.
BEST TRACKS: THE OPENER, THE BREATH, THE BEAUTIFUL & TOUCHING; FOR
YOU, & SORT OF A POP APPROACH OF SIGNIFICANCE, ARE JUST A LITTLE
EXAMPLE OF WHAT THESE 5 GUYS CAN DO.
I SUGGEST EVERYBODY VISIT THE BANDS PAGE: 'MYSPACE' TO HAVE A BETTER
IDEA.
AS A LAST JUDGEMENT, THIS IS A PRODUCT FOR FINE MUSICAL PALATE, THIS
MUSIC IS FOR YOU.

"Blushing Well"

Chambersburg PA's Blushing Well has one of those sounds that is very hard to pinpoint
for any reviewer. This is not only because they are so musically diverse but their influences
come from so many different genres. The very first thing I thought while track 1 "Breath"
started to play was this sounds like Tool but with a more compassionate and a far less aggressive approach than Tool has. I find that this sound is somewhat the standard through the majority of the cd. To me this can be attributed to Joshua's vocal style and the guitar work and intricate song structure on the cd. I'm definately not trying to categorize this as a Tool clone I'm simply stating one of the influences I think that I hear in the music. This cd is chock full of different sounds anywhere from the likes of Chevelle to Daniel Amos to King's X (because of the great grooves). One of the standout tracks on this release is "For You" which is probably the slowest song on the whole cd but it's lyrical content and beautiful accoustic guitar probably had the biggest impact on me while listening to the cd. The Flesh I'm In is loaded with great musicianship ranging from the great guitar hooks to Heathers powerful keyboard playing. The lyrical content is awesome and makes the listener do some thinking while taking them on a spiritual journey of thought provoking proportions. Blushing Well is a band that again is hard to put your finger on but none the less is a band thats music and message should be heard by all. Talent like Blushing Well doesn't come around but a couple of times in a lifetime, so make your life a little better today and give this band a listen!!!

"Blushing Well-This Flesh I'm In"

If you like the new Pearl Jam album, then this is probably the closest we are going to get to a comparison, but it is certainly not a match. Below is a bit of a description or review of the album from my perspective.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Some of you have been working with us for a while and maybe received the band's previous album 'Fragile Human'. This recording far supersedes their previous. Where the past recording was a little disconnected and very Indie sounding, 'This Flesh I'm In' was recorded in a leading studio in Nashville, TN. Yet the recording retains the essence of what the band BLUSHING WELL is. It just brought them to the professional quality that we always hoped this band could achieve. And they supersede all of our expectations!!!!
What we find in BLUSHING WELL is a sound that is very unique... it's indescribable. But I'll give it a shot here, the guitars a quite modern sounding, but the music is complicated with various artistic breakdowns in rhythms and song structure. BW is not afraid to bash all molds that we want to stuff music in. They are not afraid to use subtuned guitars, vocal melodies, tasteful classic guitar solos, keyboards, and other things that both bridge the old with the new, but creating something very new and fresh.
Their lyrical themes get at the heart of the human condition. Many of the songs deal with trying to find hope in a broken world that is caused both by things that are dealt to us in life and our own personal struggles. Yet there is an underlying hope that we can overcome our personal empty loneliness through finding strength in the power that is greater than all of us, even this universe. I guess we could sum up the message of BLUSHING WELL as "YOU ART NOT ALONE".
This is a very unique and thoughtful production, really geared to the college crowd, but certainly appeals to a wide audience...

Bio

Blushing Well is a Modern Hard Art Rock band that blends grinding guitars and soaring synths with melodic vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. Musically and lyrically, the listener is taken on a journey of fragile humanness that leads to saving hope. Compared stylistically to bands such as Tool, Kings X, King Crimson, Chevelle, Skillet, Savior Machine and Pearl Jam, the band has been able to combine old with new and create a sound that is distinctly their own. The faith-based lyrics and heart-filled message add to the passion and sincerity at the band’s core.

Based in Chambersburg, PA, Blushing Well’s reach extends globally. Distributed internationally by Nightmare Records, you can find Blushing Well on many Internet stores and various other outlets. Although not yet heavily rotated, you can find Blushing Well songs on the radio in The Philippines, Yugoslavia, Norway, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, and the United States, including—but not limited to—Washington, Texas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Having recorded one demo and two full-length CDs, including the newest This Flesh I’m In, Blushing Well has been generating a lot of positive attention. Advertising and reviews done in such magazines as Relevant, Heaven’s Metal, and Christian Music Planet have reaped positive and encouraging feedback. With the help of Indieheaven-one of the nation's largest indie band resources-and Silent Planet Promotions, Blushing Well has been able to come in contact with many new opportunities and concerts.

Over the years, the band has been able to play hundreds of shows, including some with well-known groups such as Disciple, East West, Seventh Day Slumber, Kids in the Way, and Skillet. We have had the pleasure of playing various festivals like Extreme Day Festival (Part of Steve Wingfield Ministries), Fearless Factor Festival, Code Red Festival, Joshua Generation Festival, and most recently, Vertical Festival (which featured Jeremy Camp, Pillar, Stellar Kart, and many other artists).

Apart from Blushing Well’s original sound, many other elements make this band unique. The ability to combine hope for the hopeless, strength for the weak, and healing for the broken-hearted with a passionate power-packed presentation has gained them respect from many industry people. Another key ingredient of this band is the way they relate to the listener. They write straight from the heart, so the issues they deal with are real and viable. From the standpoint of relativity, most of the band is close-knit family, which is not uncommon in society in general but is a rarity among rock music’s long bloody trail of broken families.

As a band, Blushing Well seeks to share hope in this time of need. We work to draw the listener in and lead them through a journey. This journey is that of life, struggle, and challenge, which leads straight to peace and rest in knowing something deeper than one’s self. Blushing Well’s hope is to leave you with a deeper sense of meaning and the message of a life brand new. May you find yourself caught up in the land of the Blushing Well.
