"Boat Burning Live"

These guys understand sonics and creatively working off other players,... Loud, strong, interesting and fully structured. Octaves, half octaves, intervals and shifts, creating patterns that emerge from deep within the sound... sit back and just enjoy the waves of guitar sounds that these highly skilled players bring to life. - David Hintz, DC ROCK LIVE

Bio

BOAT BURNING is a five guitar psychedelic rock ensemble from Washington, D.C.

The band specializes in "maximum minimalism," a hybrid of classical music and punk where simple passages are by a multitude of instruments -- sometimes 100 or more -- to create shimmering towers of densely-stacked harmonics.

The result is powerfully majestic music that combines the cinematic sweep of classical music with the sheer physical thrill of punk.

Recent performances include "Music for 100 Guitars" with visuals by guerrilla projectionist Rob Bell (featuring over 100 guitarists, cellists, violinists and drummers); the Smithsonian American Art Museum's LUCE Foundation concert series;  the Kennedy Center's Millennium stage;  opening for Mission Of Burma in Philladephia; Sonic Circuits Festival with Austrian violinist Mia Zabelka;  opening for Rocket from the Tombs in DC; VisArts Gallery opening for video artist Brandon Morse.

Boat Burning's eponymous debut ep, produced by Mission Of Burma's Roger Miller and mastered by Bob Weston of Shellac, was released in 2018.

Founded 2008 by Hungarian-American guitarist Andras Fekete, Boat Burning consists of Fekete, Jonathan Matis (of DC Improvisors Collective), Norm Veenstra (of TONE), and Geordie Grindle (of TEEN IDLES) on guitar, Robin Diamond on guitar and keyboards, and Mark Sherman on drums and percussion.
