Bio

Bob and Lynn Dixon, a husband and wife duo, have been singing together ever since they met. Known for their tight harmony singing and fine playing on guitars, fiddle and mandolin, they feature songs from the old-time tradition -- songs from the early days of recording by artists such as The Carter Family, Charlie Poole and the Delmore Brothers, traditional songs from long before recordings were around, and new old songs from current songwriters. These are songs that have stood the test of time and still speak to the current condition. At a typical gig, they also mix in lively instrumentalsjigs, reels, and waltzes, as well as Swedish ganglats and schottisches.

Bob and Lynn have performed at many Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA) events, including the main stages at the Harvest Jam and the Homegrown Kickoff. At the Minnesota State Fair Duet Championships, Bob and Lynn have consistently been rated in the top 5, most recently winning 3rd place in the 2010 Duet Championship.

Around Minneapolis and St. Paul, they have played at venues such as the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts, Dulonos Pizza, Bill Cagleys Roots Showcase, farmers markets, and private events.

Bob plays mandolin and several styles of guitar. He has recently added the Maybelle Carter scratch style on a low-tuned guitar to his flatpicking, fingerpicking, and what he calls old-timey 12-string. Lynn plays fiddle and backup guitar.

Bob and Lynn have participated in instrumental and singing workshops with old-time masters Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, Bruce Molsky, Paula Bradley, Alice Gerrard, Kim and Jim Lansford, Chirps Smith, Brad Leftwich, Kenny Jackson and others.

Their first CD, Blue-Eyed Boatman, was released in March of 2009. One listener wrote, The sound is like sitting in the living room with them. I hope this is the first of many.
