The acoustic guitarist and singer Bobbi Rae is such an artist. Her sour-stirring alto- soprano range reaches within your core with an eclectic mix of inspirational, alternative, contemporary R&B, and Neo-Soul. I first heard Bobbi Rae perform about a year ago at the show The Floetic Cypher, a showcase of artists ranging from singers to spoken word. My first response after hearing her sing was, “Her voice is remarkable. Who is she? - Oprah Zipbradford
The 9th Blues Festival of Londrina presents, on its third and last night, artists connected with contemporary references. Bobbi Rae and Jennifer Rocha are the attractions of Saturday night (10), at 9:30 pm, at the Valentino Bar in Londrina. A native of New Orleans, Bobbi Rae discovered singing in the church, learning the strength and expressiveness of gospel music. With Brazilian Jennifer Rocha, it was no different. Jennifer began singing gospel music and later discovered blues and rhythm & blues. Both bring other references to the genre, such as pop music.
The American and Brazilian have other points in common: the two have not yet released their own album and invested in singles to present their work - aware of the way music is currently consumed. Although young, they cannot be considered novice. Bobbi Rae and Jennifer Rocha have a history of diverse experiences, and this repertoire helps shape the personality they now present in their solo career.
By direct influence of gospel music, Bobbi Rae attaches importance to the words he sings. What's more, he wants his songs to arouse the best feelings in listeners, providing a deeper experience than pop music can indicate. “I love the feeling of gospel music, the strength, the intention and the passion,” he says. With a strong voice, the American singer approaches contemporary R&B, citing singers such as Lauryn Hill and India Arie as well as Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway and Anita Baker. With two singles in full swing, "Insane Love" and "Summer", Bobbi Rae is pleased with the repercussions of her work in Brazil: “I expected the language barrier to be more challenging. These are not always words, but how you connect, what emotion you can arouse in a person. Music speaks to the spirit, music is the universal language,
Jennifer Rocha comes to Londrina with her trio to show a repertoire based on blues and its strands: “Blues is one of my bases, throughout the show I want to show the impact it has on my musical identity along with a current repertoire” highlights . Based in São Paulo, the singer stood out for participating in the program "The Voice" and won fans for voice and interpretive ability. "The program was a gift, a mixture of feelings and lifelong learning."
With a new single about to come out of the oven with R&B and pop influences, Jennifer Rocha reveals: “My connection to blues and R&B is very clear and intense inside me. My first contact with styles was within the church, and throughout my study I went deeper and found myself actually within them. I have my foot in pop music, too, and I hope the audience will feel it and have fun throughout the show, ”he invites. - Walkiria Vieira
