Bio
If Bob Marley, Omar Lye-Fook, and Kanye West were in the studio with Rev. Al Green they would create that head nodding, soul-stirring, toe-tapping, infectious vibe that is the heartbeat of Bobby Bovell’s "ecleKtic" sound.
Singer/songwriter/rapper/guitarist/trombonist, Bobby Bovell is a versatile artist who is equally at home performing a high energy set with full band, delivering a captivating acoustic set, and getting the crowd moving while backed by his DJ.
MOBO Award 2011 nominee, Bobby Bovell, has headlined shows in the UK and Denmark in support of his remarkable debut album, 'The Emergent EcleKtic'. Bobby describes the album as a "readymade playlist of musical genres uniting to tell one story”. Using ingenious storytelling Bobby presents heartfelt social commentary, through soulful vocals, over a tasty musical smorgasbord of reggae, hip-hop, latin american, acoustic pop and electro sounds.
British-born, South London bred, Bobby Bovell is the eldest son of UK reggae music legend, Dennis Bovell. As a teenager Bobby toured the globe while working as the sound engineer for the Dennis Bovell Dub Band. Speaking of his experiences Bobby says, “I felt privileged to be able to travel and see my dad share the stage with artists like The Wailers, MC Solaar, The Roots, and Linton Kwesi Johnson”. When not on the road, Bobby was at work with his father. “My dad gave me an invaluable education in the studio while he was writing, producing, and mixing for various artists from Wet, Wet, Wet to Alpha Blondy”.
Having performed in the USA, Australia, and throughout Europe, Bobby Bovell has spread his infectious vibe to gain an international fanbase of reggae rockers, neo-soul lovers, hip-hop heads, and acoustic folksters. Bobby continues to travel the globe on his mission to "create art that will encourage us to believe that the impossible is possible. It’s my way of speaking about our world in the hopes that we can find a common story within our diversity”.
Bobby Bovell's album, 'The Emergent EcleKtic', is available now from iTunes, Amazon, Digstation, CD Baby etc.
