"Interview with Taggleme"

“Q. What inspires your art? A. I believe that art is inspired by the senses. Sound, sight, emotion, etc. I take the things that effect me the most, and channel into words and music. My music is influenced by the people I meet, the life experiences I face, basically life itself. Life can be simple, life can be complicated, writing music has always been an amazing outlet to lay everything out on the table and make a statement.” Taggleme.net - Taggleme.net Artist Spotlight - Taggleme.net

Bio

Born in Providence, RI, U.S.A., and calling Denver, Colorado home, Bobby Doran is an old soul with a story to tell. His songwriting transmits a dark, lyrical romanticism; Anti-pop angst set to music that is not only abstract, but a sonic proclamation of hope, life, love, pain and the search for solace.

You will see him on stage with an acoustic guitar, and a microphone, but you may miss the small city of effect pedals at his feet. Doran uses some footwork to record and playback his playing. He will layer guitar parts, bass parts, drum beats, guitar soloing and vocal harmonies, until you hear an invisible band coming through the speakers. Though the live-looping is memorable, you cannot deny his ability to grab the audience with energetic and emotional, original music.

“I was very shy, growing up. I was just a 'quiet one'. I think that's why I was drawn to guitar and writing songs. Music has always been the one thing that will help me decompress, whether it be listening, playing, or just banging away on a drum set. As a kid, I grew up with mostly car-ride radio, and MTV, with the exception of dipping into a friend or family member's album collection. It's safe to say I'm a product of 90's rock/grunge, with whatever other phases I went through." The Beatles, to John Mayer, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Metallica, Offspring, Green Day, Weezer, and even Dave Matthews.

"I don't really consciously set out to get any sort of point across through my music, I just work here!... The songs themselves usually end up taking over and telling the story. Half the time it takes playing them a few times before I really get what a song really came from. I may add little secret, Easter eggs for my own amusement, but the listener can interpret them however they want."

Doran has traveled across the U. S. taking part in concerts, large and small, college events and benefits including Cancer Research Foundation, Rhett Syndrome, Denver Homeless Mission and more. When he is not promoting his own music, he considers himself a jack-of-all-trades. "I'm always finding myself a new hobby. After so many days and nights on a computer, or driving, or in loud places, I like the peace and quiet. I'll find myself cooking, sight-seeing, watching new movies, and even tinkering with electronics, or guitar effect pedals to add to my show. I'd like to say I'm a nerd at heart."

His new album was written mostly in the home he grew up in over a 5 month period, and now in post-production in Colorado. “I had set out to write music that was me, and left with something that helped me figure out who I am, haha. As scripted as that sounds, that's absolutely what happend... the songs are from a chapter of my life, and to me it's the most human, and natural I've ever allowed myself to be on record."
