Bobby LeFebre

Bobby LeFebre is an award-winning performance poet, actor, and social worker. He is a two-time Grand Slam Champion, a National Poetry Slam Finalist, an Individual World Poetry Slam Finalist, and has been a member of three National Poetry Slam Teams.

The former Head of the National Theater Conservatory describes Bobby’s performance style as "combining an extraordinary talent for poetry and language with the ability to transform as an actor. He uses spoken word with a psychological and physical intuition for character, telling stories through contemporary imagery, sound, and profound insight." As a fourth-generation Mexican-American, Bobby often speaks of the Latino experience, addressing issues of language, cultural pride, stereotypes and immigration. When he isn't addressing issues in the Latino community through his poetry, he writes about optimism, love, social issues, and even going bald!

Bobby is a company actor with one of the Nation's quintessential Latino Theaters, El Centro Su Teatro, and has performed in countless productions as an actor for the last ten years. He is also a TV, film and voice-over talent, and has landed national and international commercial jobs.

Combining his passion for education and performance, LeFebre is founder of Cafe Cultura, Denver's largest monthly open mic and artistic expression event serving the Mile High inner-city community. The event was voted best open mic in 2007, and has showcased both local and national talent.

Over his career, Bobby has taught and performed poetry at cultural events, protests, schools, detention centers, conferences, and colleges and universities across the United States. He has toured internationally, most recently to Cuba to assist the Cuban people in developing a stronger performance poetry presence in Havana. He has been featured in a number of publications, has been seen and heard on the radio and TV, and was also the recipient of the 2008 Cesar Chavez Peace and Justice Award. He has shared stages with the top performance poets in the nation, Grammy-nominated musicians Les Nubian, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, Dead Prez, UNIVERSES, Saul Williams, Bahamadia, The Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word, D.J. Kool Herc, Talib Kweli, the late Gil Scott-Heron, Sandra Maria Esteves, and The Last Poets. Bobby is a two-time TEDx speaker, and he was recently featured in the first-year report from the National Museum of the American Latino Commission to President Obama and Congress addressing the importance of the museum on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
