Bio
I've been a professional musician for about 40 years, since I started as a tuba player and Music Ed major in college. After many years of playing tuba in everything from jazz bands to German "oom-pah" bands to symphony orchestras and brass choirs, I took up bagpipes, becoming a solo piper for all sorts of events and began composing bagpipe tunes, publishing a collection of 100 original tunes "From Other Shores" in 2003. In 2005 I attended a Teaching Guitar workshop in order to start a guitar class in my middle school. The following year I had a close encounter with a five string banjo in a bluegrass workshop for teachers which started me on what appears to be a life long relationship with banjo and traditional American Music. The banjo came into my life just in time as my new teaching assignment included classroom music with kindergarten and first grade students in addition to the band, chorus and guitar classes I had been teaching in the middle school. It was not long before the kids inspired me to make up songs, sometimes on the spot, about something going on in the classroom or something they were studying about.
