Ford Motel

Written By: Bob Peek & Denny Francis

Billy slunk in through the door, tippy-toein cross the floor
If he wakes up Vera Lee he knows he's dead
But his dreams of warm sheets failed, when he stepped on kitty's tail
She jumped up, said you ain't gettin near this bed
She said you're sleepin at the FORD MOTEL
Now he's exiled to that truck from Hell
Shiverin and shakin, with a hangover waitin
In that lousy, stinkin, manhood-shrinkin, dog-housin, dream dousin, good-time hatin, humiliatin FORD MOTEL

In his attempt to save some face, and redeem his fall from grace
Billy emptied out her Elvis cookie jar
He bet a sure thing in the fifth, which left him everything but rich
Vera found him at the race track talkin big stuff at the bar
She said you're sleepin at the FORD MOTEL
Now he's doin hard time in the truck from Hell
Tossin and turnin, and never ever learnin
From that lousy, stinkin, manhood-shrinkin, dog-housin, dream dousin, good-time hatin. humiliatin FORD MOTEL

The seat belt stabs his back, the shift knob's in his lap
The windows haven't closed in thirteen years
The seats are ripped and torn, the floorboard's growin corn
Something tells him that a cat's been livin here

He stumbles face-down on the lawn, his wrinkled suit still on
Wonderin if he'll ever get inside
Here comes his perfect neighbor Rog, Mr' Health Club Clean Garage
With his arm around his hot young sexy wife
While he's been sleepin at the FORD MOTEL
Sufferin in the truck from Hell
Doin his penance, servin out his sentence
In that lousy, stinkin, manhood-shrinkin, dog-housin, dream-dousin, fun-denyin, mortifyin, good-time hatin, spawn of Satan, emasculatin FORD MOTEL

Mudflap Girl

Written By: Bob Peek & Denny Francis

She was thumbin for a ride, it was half-past eight
I was bored, countin cactus on the Interstate
She had a slam-dunk body, make your toenails curl
I said, bless my boogie, she's a Mudflap Girl

I 'bout jack-knifed my big rig, slammin on the brakes
She jumped in smellin like an angel cake
Batted her eyes, said take me round the world
I said, I'd climb a razor-rope for a Mudflap Girl

MUDFLAP GIRL, not just a sticker on a truck
MUDFLAP GIRL, I can't believe my luck
MUDFLAP GIRL, I know they exist
She's sittin right beside me with ruby red lips

She said, I'm thirsty for a drink and some neon lights
We stopped at a place called The Desert Nights
I headed for the jukebox, gave Merle a whirl
And started slow-dancin with the Mudflap Girl

I thought they were a legend like a Jack-a-lope
But then my Mudflap Girl, took off her coat
Made me a true believer when she touched my knee
I was prayin that my sleeper had clean sheets

MUDFLAP GIRL, not just a sticker on a truck
MUDFLAP GIRL, I can't believe my luck
MUDFLAP GIRL. I know they exist
I'll never forget that passionate kiss

She disappeared the next day at Lilly's Truck Stop
But I'm tellin you the truth, this was no mirage
I don't have a picture, but I have a little proof
On the floor of my truck, I found her high-heeled shoes

I'll join Bobby Bare and Red Sovine in history
But if they had a choice, they'd probably wish they were me

MUDFLAP GIRL, not just a sticker on a truck
MUDFLAP GIRL, I can't believe my luck
MUDFLAP GIRL, now I know they exist
I'll never forget that passionate kiss

Tears On My Tanktop

Written By: Bob Peek & Denny Francis

There's a backhoe in my bedroom, and a Bobcat in my john
Me, & Mom, and my sister's wife are cryin on the spray-green lawn
The city council, citin civic pride, condemned our whole dang park
Now they're rippin up our double-wide and tearin out my heart

I've got TEARS ON MY TANK TOP, and brother don't you know
They're mixin with the Velveeta stains from the wedding of Gene and Flo
They're pourin through the belly button rip, and I can't make 'em stop
We don't have a place to live so I've got TEARS ON MY TANK TOP

It's not hard to get nostalgic when they're haulin your memories away
Like that K-Mart shed where me and Ed played gooseneck with Cousin Faye
And isn't that the screen door Mom ran through when she found her LSD?
And we all wondered where Dad buried Uncle Joe well, by God, there he be

I've got TEARS ON MY TANK TOP, and sister, don't you know
They're de-shrivelin the Jala-peeno rind from the Block-and-Tackle show
They're beadin up on my nipple ring and they ain't gonna stop
Until I find us a place to live, I'll have TEARS ON MY TANK TOP

Now the couch is strapped down in the boat, the boat's up on the van
The van's chained to the Lincoln, which is waitin on an oil pan
It's just us ten plus the Sheriff's men, and we're sadder than a stone
As we raise one last shot to the empty lot that used to be our home

I've got TEARS ON MY TANK TOP, and friends, don't you know
They're sloshin down on the chili glops that I splattered at the Stop-n-Go
They're soakin right through my britches, and Lord, I hope they'll stop
But we don't have a place to live and I've got TEARS ON MY TANK TOP

Red Screen Door

Red Screen Door
2009 Bob Peek, Denny Francis

That summer sun, hotter than an August in Texas
Burnin through the paper-thin roof of this danged old duplex
My neighbors' goin at it again, this traffic's gettin under my skin
Ain't the life I'm livin in my dreams, now those dreams are callin out to me

I see a farmhouse with a gravel drive, a little stream where I can wet my line
There's a girl whose eyes light up, for wildflowers in a Dixie cup
There'll be a coon-hound fetchin a stick, a yard just made for a couple of kids
Miles and miles of corn, and a porch with a Red Screen Door

Left a rent check on that blue formica table
On my way out of town, I'll pay the gas and the cable
I won't be comin back, I got a Bible and a US map
Sittin on the seat of my truck, and with Jesus and a little luck

I'll find a farmhouse with a gravel drive, a little stream where I can wet my line
There'll be a girl whose eyes light up, for wildflowers in a Dixie cup
There'll be a coonhound fetchin a stick, a yard just made for a couple of kids
Miles and miles of corn, and a porch with a Red Screen Door

With Jesus and a little luck..
I'll find a farmhouse with a gravel drive, you could miss it cause there's no road sign
There's a church not far up the way, where generations have been born and raised
I'll hold my baby on Friday night, we'll dance to crickets under starlit skies
Next to miles and miles of corn, on a porch with a Red Screen Door
You can see miles and miles of corn from that porch with a beat-up, paint-peelin, hinge-creakin Red Screen Door

Those Who Made It Home

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis, Ann Cummings

His Brothers-In-Arms roll him off the plane, present him to his mother and he feels her pain,
When she throws her arms around his neck, and he can't hug her back
He looks up into his fathers eyes, sees the pity just beneath the pride
There's nothing he'd rather do, but can't, than shake his old man's hand
He's done with the war but the war's not done with him
He's not the boy who left to serve his country just a few years ago
These days the Tour of Duty's just begun,
for Those Who Made It Home

He's looking from the back seat of his old car, all of his loved ones are waitin in the yard
There's a banner strung across the porch sayin, "Welcome back. We're proud of you"
His big little brother runs to open his door, says we're gonna tear it up like we did before
And wheels him up the brand-new ramp all decorated red, white and blue
They all take turns not knowing what to say
In a room full of people he still feels all alone
They all keep saying, "You're a lucky one,
one of Those Who Made It Home"

Of Those Who Made It Home
Some never really made it back
They'll never really make it back
Those Who Made It Home

The last guest's gone, he's in his old room, hears his dad in the den, watchin World News
A suicide bomber wrecked a hundred lives today
And he flashes back to that blinding heat, of a bullet in his back on a Baghdad street
The shot didn't kill him, but it took his life away
He drew a ragged breath, began to pray to God
Please help my family understand, they need to let me go
Lord, forgive me, I wish I wasn't one
One of Those Who Made It Home

Of Those Who Made It Home
Some never really made it back
They'll never really make it back
Those Who Made It Home
Those Who Made It Home

Home Isn't Home

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

What, am I crazy? I got this plane ticket home
Standin in this line, lettin other people go
Everybody smilin, or cryin, excited, rushin by
I'm just tryin, decidin if I should even stay in this line
Cause Home Isn't Home anymore

When I can't sleep on that bed, and I can't eat at that table
I can't face the front steps, and those pictures that you painted
And I don't wanna walk off that plane, knowing that you're not waiting
Cause Home Isn't Home anymore

I can't go to Vegas, no, we used to love the shows
I have to fly someplace where you and I didn't go
Maybe down to Houston, or Tucson, Atlanta, Tupelo
I could go somewhere, anywhere, but I'd still be alone

When I can't sleep on that bed, and I can't eat at that table
I can't face the front steps, and those pictures that you painted
And I don't want to walk off that plane, knowin that you're not waiting

Who am I foolin? I might as well face it.
Cause no place, nowhere, in this world will erase it

I can't sleep on that bed, and I can't eat at that table
I'll just go in through the back door, do the best that I am able
But baby when I call out your name, I hope you hear me prayin that I miss you baby
And Home Isn't Home anymore Ooh, anymore

Yes Sir, I have one bag......

Better World

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Kindness wins every battle, comforts all the poor
It settles every argument, and ends every war

In a Better World, In a Better World
Well, it could in this world too, it's up to me and you

Truth lives in every sunset, and every grain of sand
It sings from the top of every mountain, it's heard in every land

In a Better World, In a Better World
But it could in this world too, if we could see it all anew

Hate breeds hate, love breeds love
Let's find that world we're dreaming of

Love crosses every ocean, it's written in every sky
It beats in the heart of every mother, it shines in every eye

In a Better World, In a Better World
Sometimes I think in this world too
Sometimes I see these things in you

In a Better World

Surfin On Acid

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Bryce just dropped in, Now he's just a trace
Gods' own energy, propelling me through space

We're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night
It's so outrageous, so outta sight
Grab your board, everything's allright
When we're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night

Waves are shattering, flourescent sparks of green
Showers me with bliss on the other dise of a dream

We're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night
It's so outrageous, so outta sight
Grab your board, everything's allright
When we're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night

The wind's warm velvet
I feel so small
There's no boundaries
When you're part of it all

We're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night
It's so outrageous, so outta sight
Grab your board, everything's allright
When we're Surfin On Acid, in the middle of the night

You Bore Me

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

I use you, and abuse you, then accuse you of being weak
Why won't you stand up, baby man up, you're puttin me to sleep
I draw the line and you say fine, when you should take offense
Being cute is no substitute for your useless impotence
I'm sick of anorexic chic, I need a man who brings the heat
You always acquiesce, and smoke your trendy cigarettes

You Bore Me, adore me, sometimes you should ignore me
You're over-attentive and so un-inventive
Be distant, insistent, put up just a little resistance
It's always the same old story - baby, You Bore Me

I'm fickle and so special, a little devil has my ear
I think it's time you grow a spine or crawl on out of here
When I'm putting on my morning clothes, don't bring me yet another rose
If you send me one more desperate text, I swear I'm gonna call my ex

You Bore Me, adore me, sometimes you should ignore me
You're over-attentive and so un-inventive
Be distant, insistent, put up just a little resistance
It's always the same old story - baby, You Bore Me

On second thought, why don't you stick around honey
Til I go through all your daddys' money
Send me to London, Paris, and Rome
I'll go shopping and you stay home

You Bore Me, adore me, sometimes you should ignore me
You're over-attentive and so un-inventive
Be distant, insistent, put up just a little resistance
It's always the same old story - baby, You Bore Me

Soul Rider

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

I used to live in the water, when the surf went off, I'd be there
I'd see this old man on his longboard, lifted me up like a prayer

He's a Soul Rider, everything he needs
Is on that horizon, and in the arms of the sea

We'd all fight for the big waves, he'd be satisfied with them all
He wasn't there for the glory, just answering to his own call

He's a Soul Rider, everything he needs
Is on that horizon, and in the arms of the sea

I'm older now, I've got everything I need
Life's been good, but I've been missing pieces out of me
Then I saw my board, and I threw it in the Ford
Cause I knew where I had to be

Ah ah, ah ah...

Out in the surf, as the sun sets, with the dying wind and waves of glass
I think of my friend on the longboard, I'm at peace at last

I'm a Soul Rider, everything I need
Is on that horizon, and in the arms of the sea

Ah ah .....

Constantly Falling

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Promised myself I will not cry
I'll keep my hope hidden for the millionth time
My heart falls and rises with the chances of being with you

I'm totally helpless, and always confused
I know it's so senseless, but I'm tragically, Constantly Falling for you

You're holding back, I'm letting go
The air rushes past me, a familiar cold
You love when you save me, cause you know I would die in your arms

I'm totally helpless, and always confused
I know it's so senseless, but I'm tragically, Constantly Falling for you

Why do I do this? When I know it's insane
Trapped in that circle, with only myself to blame

I'm totally helpless, and always confused
I know it's so senseless, but I'm tragically, Constantly Falling for you

Mudflap Girlz

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

I was bored, countin cactus on the Interstate
She was thumbin for a ride, it was gettin late
She had a slam-dunk body make your toenails curl
I said, "Bless my boogie, she's a Mudflap Girl"

Well, I fish- tailed over with both feet on the brake
She jumped in smellin like an angel cake
Asked me if I'd take her all around the world
I said I'd climb a razor-rope for ya Mudflap Girl

Mudflap Girlz, ooh smokin hot
Mudflap Girlz, ah the curves they've got
Mudflap Girlz, when they strike that pose
Everybody knows - she's a Mudflap Girl

She said, "I'm thirsty for a drink and some neon lights
We flew into a honky-tonk called Desert Nights
I headed for the box and I put on Merle
And started slow-dancin with the Mudflap Girl

Mudflap Girlz, crazy hot!
Mudflap Girlz, yeah they'll have a shot
Mudflap Girlz, when they strike that pose
Everybody knows - she's a Mudflap Girl

We were pourin down tequila like it's goin out of style
She was drivin all the local boys stirred-up and wild
Til she grabbed my collar, whispered in my ear
"One more drink, then we're outta here" Yeah

Oh, what a night, she shook me to my bones
I woke up in the mornin, hung-over and alone
She wrote in lipstick on my windshield, "Gotta jam
Thanks for the ride, trucker - Love, Pam"

Mudflap Girlz, ooh smokin hot
Mudflap Girlz, ah the moves they've got
Mudflap Girlz, when they strike that pose
Everybody knows - she's a Mudflap Girl

I Keep Searchin

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Our love was the morning of a beautiful day
Without any warning, it all blew away

It left me Searchin, tryin to understand
Why the reasons were like a fistful of sand
Through my fingers, I felt you slippin through
I saw a darkness comin over you
I prayed someone would tell me what to do
I was Searchin

When life seemed so evil, you made it all end
I tried to imagine the Hell you were in

And I kept Searchin for a way to understand
But the reasons were like a fistful of sand
Through my fingers, I saw you slippin through
You took the one road madness left for you
The only road I couldn't travel too
But I kept Searchin

Why didn't the world stop?
How did people go on day to day?
Couldn't they see I was hurtin?
Didn't they know it stole you away?

My wounds are all healed, the scars slowly fade
But it's hard not to feel the life we could've made

So I keep searchin for a way to understand
Why our future was like a fistful of sand
Through my fingers, I still feel you slippin through
But I know now there was nothin I could do
I'm learning how to live with losing you

And I Keep Searchin
I Keep Searchin

Be A Child Again

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis, Ann Cummings

Be A Child Again, we'll take care of you
Like you cared, when we were young and small
It's our turn to shoulder the burden
Mama, you mean so much to us all

You're the thread of love that holds us together
Through every hardship and trial
Close your eyes, and dream about that mountain
Where you played when you were just a child

Be A Child Again, we'll take care of you
Like you cared, when we were young and small
It's our turn to shoulder the burden
Mama, you mean so much to us all

Though your steps have slowed in a world movin faster
Take your time, we'll walk with you
To that place where hope springs eternal
And troubles are far between and few

Be A Child Again, we'll take care of you
Like you did, when we were young and small
It's our turn to shoulder the burden
Mama, you mean so much to us all

Out Of God's Mind

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

God was lonely, so he made man
From his longing, the world began

Here we are, Out Of God's Mind
Into time
We wake up and find, we're Out of God's Mind

First the springtime, then the light
Comes the Autumn, then the night

Here we are, Out Of God's Mind
Cast into time
Wandering blind, Out Of God's Mind

Where's it all goin?
Does anybody know?
Has this story we live in,
Already been told?

But in the silence, the truth is strong
Life is music, and we're the song

Here we are, Out of God's Mind
Souls in time
It's all very fine, Out Of God's Mind

I Like her Like That

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Vinyl 45's, black and white movies
Tiny rose tattooed on her back
Loves the Beatles, and calls sunsets groovy

And I Like her Like That, Yeah, I Like Her Like That
Oh, I Like Her Like That

Reads to old folks and tunes the motor on her Chevy
Got a Roy Rogers welcome mat
Sometimes she skinny dips and drinks French wine at the levee
And I Like her Like That, Yeah, I Like Her Like That
Oh, I Like her Like That

Like John and Yoko, Juliet and Romeo
Like a Dead t-shirt and a cowboy hat
Just a boy and a girl, from two different worlds
Every day she's on a whole new track
And I Like Her Like That

Likes to sing to me at three in the morning
While she paints her toenails black
Says we're the lovers from West Side Story
And I Like Her Like That. Yeah, I Like Her Like That
Oh, I Like Her Like That

Like John and Yoko, Juliet and Romeo
Like a Dead t-shirt and a cowboy hat
Just a boy and a girl, from two different worlds
Every day she's on a whole new track
But I Like Her Like That
Yeah, I Like Her Like That
Oh, I Like Her Like That

Call It A Day

Written By: Bob Peek, Denny Francis

Tommy told Jenny, who told Katy you were dissin me
So last year, so ancient history
I was blind-sided, why was I the last one to know? Woah oh

You're a beautiful spectacle, but so damn pitiful
If you don't know that I know the situation's critical
Look me in the eye, tell me why I shouldn't let you go, Woah oh

You think you can find someone better than me
Then have a good life, I'm not sorry
You set this bridge on fire, but I'm not gonna burn, Woah oh

I should Call it A Day and never look back
I'll tear your page from my book
You tried to play this girl, go play in your own world
You weren't all that anyway
Let's Call It A Day

Summertime you were writin, sayin you were missin me
I held those letters and imagined you were kissin me
I was lovestruck, lost in a beautiful dream

But you thought you could find someone better than me
So have a good life, It's no big thing
I'm settin those letters on fire, and watching 'em burn

I could Call it A Day and never look back
I'll tear your page from my book
You tried to play this girl, go play in your own world
You weren't all that anyway
Let's Call It A Day

Karma always comes around
It showed up on your stupid face
I wish you'd just shut up?
You're such a head case

I'm gonna Call it A Day and never look back
I'll tear your page from my book
You tried to play this girl, go play in your own world
You weren't all that anyway
Let's Call It A Day
