"That's just so wrong," say the T-shirts, the website, the people in the audience, etc. Bob stands to stage right, while The Enemy Below positions himself opposite. Sandwiched between these two irreverent scoundrels are Insect Girl (the evil hottie) and Trafalgar the Square (the good hottie). With S-Dog on keys and The Dude! rocking the skins in the back, this sex-tet (literally) combines rock and roll, burlesque, and poor, poor taste with a unique ease. "Chain me up, tie me to the bedpost/ Oh, whip my ass till it looks like a French Roast," I could go on for pages describing the demented genius in the songwriting, but lines like these speak for themselves. The band's modest mission is to "shock and amuse, nothing more," or so they claim. I had the supreme pleasure of a Bob Muir and the Enemy Below experience on Tuesday night at The Delancey, and not only am I shocked and amused, but I'm also befuddled, flabbergasted, disgusted, and totally aroused (all at the same time). I make fun, but honestly, the experience is one in a million, and the band is so fucking loveable I simply must go see them again at their CD release show, May 31st at Brooklyn's Luna Lounge, and you should too.

Bob Muir was a folk singer who did quirky tunes about tiny dogs and not getting respect at work. The Enemy Below was a rock singer and guitarist who went by the name of Brian Yarbrough and had a tendency to cry on stage. The Enemy Below ran an Open Mic in Queens, where one day Bob showed up and played a song called Someone Else is F**king You Tonight. A great band was born. Playing songs about watching porn all day and doing un-natural sex acts to women with only one eye, Bob Muir and The Enemy Below flew through clubs in New York City and Florida, picking up fans out of stunned unsuspecting audiences. As Bill E. in NYC of Gotham Radio put it, “It’s not just that you do stuff like this, it’s that you found someone to do it with you.” The way the fans of Bob Muir and The Enemy Below like to describe their music is best put by one phrase, “It’s just so wrong.” After two years of playing in small clubs they were joined by a keyboard crooner named S-Dog, who brought a musical respectability and tender melodic accents to Bob Muir and The Enemy Below’s raw three chord structure. Not too long after, Insect Girl joined the fray, and lit up the stage with her stunning good looks and charming choreography. Trafalgar (like the square), a more recent addition, plays nicely off of Insect Girl and has added a craziness that ensues each time the band takes the stage. The Dude, the band’s most recent addition, drummed his way from Israel to America with his infectious rhythms and wacky personality. Blending funny phrases and odd twists with standard punk and rock musical themes, Bob Muir and The Enemy Below is at the fore front of Comedy Rock. They Released their 12 track album "That's Just so Wrong" on May 31st, 2008.
