All Female Band Takes New York by Storm
Brooklyn, New York-Angela Watson presents Bobbyesgirl, an all female Nu Jazz Band. With five musicians , this band has set the standard for modern music. Angela Watson, who has been likened to that of Ella Fitzgerald leads the band with her original tunes on vocals.
Angela Watson is a 27 year old vocalist who has made an instant name for herself in New York city. Having played with such Jazz greats as Wynton Marsalis, and Victor Jones, Angela wanted to spread her wings in an unforgettable way.
“I wanted the band playing for me to be an all female band because it expresses the beginning of a new musical standard. That’s what I’d like to stamp.” said Watson.
The name Bobbyesgirl derived from Angela’s late father, Robert “Bobby” Willis who’s life ended in a tragic death in 2004.
“I was a daddy’s girl. My father was an actor, singer, dancer and I was his shadow so I wanted to honor him,” reflected Watson.
The music of Bobyesgirl crosses the lines of Classical, Pop, R&B anything you can think of, all under the umbrella of Jazz.
“I am very passionate about preserving the artform of Jazz, as close to the origin as possible.” said Watson.
Watson, originally from Texas, put together a band that crossed different backgrounds to create a more diverse sound.
“Jazz is so much about feelings and experiences and life. I write different tunes based on where and how I was at the moment. So I looked for musicians who can share in the creative process and bring their different experiences and backgrounds to make something special.
The member of the group are Ayako Higuchi, keys; Anna Lieberwirth, bass; Laneeta Luke, drums; Rachel Phillips ,trumpet and Angela Watson ,vocals.
The musicians in the band are from around the world ranging from Japan and Germany, to New Jersey and Texas.
“It is really interesting to see how everyone interprets the music being from such different places in the world.” said Rachel Phillips.
Bobyesgirl has been playing in the short two years of existence around New York city and surrounding areas to build their fan base. The group is also currently in the studio recording their first album entitled “Love Anthology”

All Female Phenomenon Bobyesgirl is nothing less than extraordinary. Fusing Classical, Jazz, R&b and Hiphop, this sextet has captured every audience put before them.
Being from every end of the World, these fierce femmes combine every sound imaginable to create a sound worthy of legends. The brain child bandleader is up and coming vocalist Angela Watson-Modeste.
Internationally recognized for her sultry tone and remarkable phrasing on stage and in the studio, Angela Watson-Modeste is known as an innovator who is not afraid to bring together different styles and sounds. Currently with her all female band, they effortlessly blend standard Jazz, Hip Hop, Urban Soul, Modern Jazz and Funk.Collectively the band has performed with such as Wynton Marsalis, Mingus Big Band, Vanessa Rubin, Victor Jones to Kirk Franklin, the late Luther Vandross, Jessica Simpson, Pussy Cat Dogs, TKA K7,Gloria Gaynor,Tarralyn Ramsey, and many others.
