Bio

Seven piratical rogues whose only goal is to conquer the world with their music, leaving behind them a wake of good times and happy souls! Armed with a style infused with celtic, punk, polka, Irish traditional, Breton, Maritime and obviously Quebecois influences, they deliver their musical message in a barrage of rock and good times…talented but never too serious, they only aim to please. While their recorded material is rock-solid, it’s on stage that Bodh’aktan truly takes no prisoners, lifting spirits and glasses to the gods of fun!
And just who are these stage warriors?

Alex Richard (lead vocals, guitar, bouzouki, flute and bodhran), Alain Barriault (electric guitar, dobro, banjo and vocals), Rob Langlois (bass and vocals), Jonathan Moorman (violin and vocals), Eric Tanguay (accordion, vocals), Eric Gousy (drums and vocals), and finally Luc Bourgeois (bagpipes, whistles, electric guitar and vocals). Arriving from the four corners of Quebec (les Iles de la Madeleine, the Saguenay, Havre St Pierre) and even counting an Englishman among their ranks, these ambassadors of revelry bring a musical diversity which mixes surprisingly well into an explosive and colorful sound.

Strengthened by the experience of a 2011 European tour (France, Belgium and Germany), and bolstered by an ever-increasing schedule of shows in Quebec which continually reinforce their reputation, Bodh’aktan is building an army of fans of all ages who appreciate their dedication to music and good times. Playing in almost every major summer festival in Quebec in 2012 (including Les Francofolies, Le Festival d’été de Quebec and Les Rhythmes du Monde), Bodh’aktan charmed massive crowds, swelling the ranks of the faithful with every song. Many bands claim to “bring the party;” none has ever succeeded like Bodh’aktan. Just ask the Bodh army!!

Their first album, “Au Diable les Remords (Against Wind and Tides),” which was nominated for a Felix award for Quebec Rock Album of the Year (2012), demonstrates an authentic and organic approach to rock and traditional music. It was co-produced by Fred St-Gelais (the Juno-nominated force behind Marie-Mai, David Usher and many others) under the direction of the Go-Musique team. Their second album, due for release in the spring of 2013, promises an even more exciting musical journey. This ship is bound for glory... all aboard!!!
