About Julia Karosi

I was born in a musicial family. My mother is an opera singer, and my brother is an organist now living in the USA. Music is a familiar ambience for me if I can put it this way; it was „the first language, which I started to learn in my mother’s belly. I had my first classical singing lessons with my mother, who tought me the basic techniques of breathing, and vocal training. I begun my first piano lessons when I was six, after which I started to play the violin as a second instrument. I was singing in the Angelica girl’s choir for a long time, while in high school I started to turn from classical music to jazz. During that time I was listening all-day-long my old bakelite disks, trying to memorize the vocal line. When I finished my graduate studies at the Eötvös Lóránd Tudományegyetem, I started to turn my interest towards Jazz studies in a more professional manner. My teachers were: Gábor Winand, gnes Lakatos. At this point of my life I feel like getting to know new areas of jazz singing. It seems to be an eternal story...

About Dezsö Oláh

Dezso Oláh (pianist, composer): Was born in Budapest, the 28th of january, 1986. He began to show great interest towards jazz music after his early classical studies. In the year of 2005 he had already won entry to the Liszt Ferenc Universtiy of Musical Arts jazz piano faculty, where he is now doing his third semester under the guidance of pianist and composer Kálmán Oláh. His main influences are Lennie Tristano, Bill Evans, Béla Bartók, beside many more. Within the year he had formed his own trio formation, which has played among many other for instance in the Palace of Arts, on the concert series arranged by the Musical Academy for young talents, but they have also appeared at the Theatres Merlin and Thalia, at the Szeparé of Zöld Pardon, the Muzsikus Café, and on the Lánchíd Festival. The Duna TV has in the near past recorded the concert film of the Trio, on whick Pecek Lakatos Krisztián (contrabass) and Pecek Lakatos András (drums) collaborated (director: Sebeök György). The Dezso Olah Trio plays mainstream jazz, in which collective improvisation has a main role, past and future are present all at a time. Their repertoire consists of own compostions, bebop, impaired pulsation, 8th note, ballad tempo pieces. The pianist made his first radio recording on 3rd March, 2006, where he also introduced himself as an arranger. He had won the award for best instrumental soloist, on the All Hungarian Orchestra competition, arranged by the Aranytiz Cultural Center. Almost parallel, in the semester of 2006/2007 he had played on the Hungarian Jazz Fest, as part of the Liszt Ferenc Universtiy big band's concert, under the guidance of László Attila. He has appeared beside the above mentioned László Attila, Berkes Balázs, Pluto Horváth József and Orbán György. Presently he is in action also with Maitinsky Anna Eszter, with which duo they have played on Balatonfüred Jazz Festival and at Konzikert (Conservatiore Garden). From the June of 2007 he became the promoter of Korg, Hungary. In the same month, with the formation Jazzfriends Five, they had won the Balatonfüred Jazz Talent Contest, where they had played his own composition: Once More. But his victory bought not just acknowledgement, but also an invitation to be interviewed for the TV series "Kultúrház", on the National Hungarian TV (The interview may be seen at http://www.mtv.hu/magazin/cikk.php?id=220114 link).
