"Enter a Hypnotic World"

“Matt Davis is the still centre of the hypnotic world that is Bombazine Black, playing deceptively simple guitar riffs
that build in layers and ripple dreamily outwards, meeting in loving intersection with here a vibraphone, there a cello,
sometimes a harmonium or a glockenspiel. Out of the barest, purest elements and melodies, the band builds up, wave
by imperceptible wave, dreamy sonic landscapes that are transportational in the very best musical sense. It is
completely tight -- Davis knows precisely what he is orchestrating around him -- and yet the effect, for the listener, is
to enter a vast kind of looseness, an aural trance in which images unspool like movies inside our heads, and the chaos
of the outside world recedes."
Luke Davies, author ‘Candy’, ‘Isabelle the Navigator’, ‘God of Speed’.

Bio

Bombazine Black is the new project for Matt Davis, founding member of Australian indie-rock band GERSEY.
Bombazine Black released their debut record HERE THEIR DREAMS through new Texan indie label Youthful Chaos in August, 2008. It is available as a limited edition hand-numbered digipak or free-format download (both available from youthfulchaos.com).
Alongside Davis’s minimalist, searching guitar lines are the wonderful performances of guests including Toby Martin from Youth Group, Miles Browne from Art of Fighting, Marlon Cook from Gaslight Orchestra, Daryl Bradie and Danny Tulen from Gersey, not to mention the late Richard Burton and Dylan Thomas reading from the latter’s poetry. With Paris street
sounds from the church bells of the Eglise Saint-Louis to les enfants in the Square Villemin as backdrop, HERE THEIR DREAMS is a record of moments, of fleeting melodies and sounds that creep into your subconscious and invite you to imagine, think, and of course, to dream.
