Bonginkosi Madonsela Quartet (BMQ) is an eclectic and innovative jazz quartet based in Pretoria, South Africa and comprising of Bonginkosi Madonsela on piano, Bafana Ndhlovu on bass, Jaques Meyer on drums and Papi Koloi on Saxophone. The members include young musicians who each have their own unique story that makes the unique sound of the band. They are quickly becoming highly sought after in locally & internationally as a session band- and in the process of releasing their new album.
Bonginkosi Madonsela (Piano)
Winston Bonginkosi Madonsela, born in Soshanguve, Southern Africa Is regarded as one of the most influential and accomplished jazz pianists and composer. He regularly performs in concerts as a solo pianist, while also leading his quartet. Apart from performances in South Africa, Madonsela and his quartet has also toured to Swaziland, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe. During the course of his career, he has performed as pianist and/composer, with some of South Africa’s greatest musicians including the late Ernest Motle, Ladies in jazz, African jazz moods, Ngwako Manamela (xylophonist) Vusi Mahlasela, and he has performed alongside Vusi Khumalo, the late Moses Molelekwa and many more.
Madonsela continues to use his ability as a pianist, composer, (traditional mouth bow) unique compositional and performance concept that pays homage to all his musical influences and the many great musicians he has worked with, all while continuing to look forward musically.
