BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

I typically play independently, vocals and rhythm guitar. Describing my music is difficult for me because I write what I feel. Usually it weaves through folk, country, or pop.

Biography

Bonny Jean is a young singer/songwriter from Twentynine Palms, California. She received 5 years of vocal instruction through her church choir, where she also provided accompaniment with guitar, flute, bongos and tambourine. Currently, she is a member of the Select Choir at her high school, plays the sousaphone in the marching band, and tuba in the symphonic band. She has been playing guitar for several years and began studying the double bass in 2008. In addition to the afore mentioned instruments, she also plays baritone and piccolo.

She has performed at various venues in California, independently and as a featured vocalist. She has been fortunate to perform with Scott Gates, Jonathan McEuen, Chelsea Williams, Evan Marshall, Alice and Albert Williams, Chuck Hailes, and The Hafler Duo. In 2008 she appeared with the Scott Gates Band at Dizzy's in San Diego to open for IIIrd Tyme Out, which resulted in a mention by Dwight Worden in his article on "Women in Bluegrass: Out of the Kitchen and onto the Stage", in the October 2008 edition of the San Diego Troubadour.

Recently, Bonny Jean was featured in The Desert Trail newspaper's Spirit Magazine as a "Young Mover" in the Morongo Basin. "As talented as she is smart, Twentynine Palms' Bonny Jean Scott has excelled in school while working and pursuing her musical dream ", writes Spirit Editor, Kelly O'Sullivan, "Listen to the 17-year-old sing and you aren't likely to forget it - her voice is big and robust, her words thoughtful and compelling".

Bonny enjoys most music genre, and attempts not to limit herself to a particular style. She currently has six songs under copyright, and continues to write songs and work toward a full length CD. Currently, Bonny is focusing on graduating high school a semester early to pursue a masters degree in music. Her long term goal is to achieve her teaching credential and become a school music instructor.

Among the many artists that influence her music and musicianship are Alice and Albert Williams, Chuck Hailes, Nathan McEuen, Scott Gates, Chelsea Williams, Janet Robin, Kasey Chambers, Sugarland, Keith Urban, Missy Raines and The New Hip, Saving Jane, and Streetlight Manifesto.

Lyrics

Do You Love Me

Written By: Bonny Jean Scott

I don't care what tomorrow brings
I don't care about nothing
I don't care if no money comes in
and I don't get a thing

but I need to know a few things
do you miss me, baby
I need to know a few things
do you love me, honey

you make me feel things that I've never felt before
butterflies that stay and won't go
I'll wait a lifetime just to hear your voice again
or see your smile that lights up my day

but I need to know a few things
do you miss me, baby
I need to know a few things
do you love me, honey

when I'm down in the dumps
you always lift me up
and give me strength to get through
all those hard times I've had

but I need to know a few things
do you miss me, baby
I need to know a few things
do you love me, honey

baby please come home
you took my heart for ransom
you left me here
with nothing of my own
but I don't care
all I want is you home

but I need to know a few things
do you miss me, baby
I need to know a few things
do you love me, honey
do you love me

Somebody, Somehow

Written By: Bonny Jean Scott

I'm not your typical girl
I'm sorry I'm not like that
grew up in a small town California
beating up the boys
you left me here
to fend for myself
as you ran off with somebody else

you said I was no one
going nowhere
well baby you're all wrong
gonna prove to you
I'm a somebody somehow
going somewhere without you

I'm gonna show you I can
live life on my own
stand my ground
without your help
not care
what you say
just live life like there's no other day

you said I was no one
going nowhere
well baby you're all wrong
gonna prove to you
I'm a somebody somehow
going somewhere without you

your ego's big enough
for the both of us
and I don't have to put up with it
anymore

I gave you everything I had
but it wasn't enough
all you gave me
was heartache and pain
but I'll see past that
get over that
over you
I'll bet you're sorry you said

that I was no one
going nowhere
well baby you're all wrong
I proved to you that I'm a somebody
going somewhere without you

Falling Hard

Written By: Bonny Jean Scott

I wanna feel
the way I feel when I'm with you
I wanna feel
the touch of your hand on mine
I wanna smile
that lasts forever and a day

falling, falling hard for you
seems to be no ending
I'm afraid there's nothing you can do
falling hard for you

you
caught my eye today
with that
great big smile across your face
I can't
seem to get you out of my head

falling, falling hard for you
seems to be no ending
I'm afraid there's nothing you can do
falling hard for you

I slip away into daydream
to escape the faint reality
oh, what a crazy day for me

falling, falling hard for you
seems to be no ending
I'm afraid there's nothing you can do
falling, falling hard for you
seems to be no ending
I'm afraid there's nothing you can do
falling hard for you

City Lights

Written By: Bonny Jean Scott

I catch myself
smiling when I see you
singing every happy song I know
dancing in circles
when no one's watching
under the city lights

city lights
boy, you turn them on
the midnight stars shine bright again
and every new day
is a happy one
for you and me

pain has gone away
a weight has been lifted
and every dark day becomes light

city lights
boy, you turn them on
the midnight stars shine bright again
and every new day
is a happy one
for you and me

when I'm around you
I can't seem to find
the right words to say
I tend to stutter
and now I wonder
do you love me the same way

staring out the window
wondering what's gonna happen next
will I see you in the future
or was it only in the past

city lights
boy, you turn them on
the midnight stars shine bright again
and every new day
is a happy one
for you and me

I catch myself
smiling when I see you
singing every happy song I know

Mental Breakdown

Written By: Bonny Jean Scott

Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
I can see the world spinning around me
But I can't see the faces that are right beside me

I'm going crazy
See the people I meet
I can't be what they want me to be
I can't be that person anymore

Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
I can see the world spinning around me
But I can't see the faces that are right beside me

I want to live my life
Not someone elses dream
And there's nothing you can do
To change me.

Silent chaos
Hidden chains
This frustration is
Driving me insane

Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
Mental, I'm having a mental breakdown
I can see the world spinning around me
But I can't see the faces that are right beside me
I can't see the faces that are right beside me
