"Tim Holek"

Browne is a magical musician who not only creates his own songs, he creates his own words! This St. John's native needs to gig more often and deserves to get some marketing behind him. Many are not yet familiar with his name but they need to become aware that something new and completely different is on the scene. - CanadianBlues.ca

"Eric Black"

I've just listened to your CD and it totally snapped my brain!! I liked every track but my favs are Two Eggs Any Style, Toe Jam, Liquid Lunch, Pink Chicken and the one that I'm starting my show off with next week, Captain Beano. This is a f*#kin' top album. - Blue Country News, Australia

"Bruce Iglauer"

You play very well in a lot of different styles. Plus you clearly have a sense of humor, both in your music and in your song titles! I hear that you are quite creative, your playing flows really well, and you pay good attention to tone. Thanks for the good listen. - Alligator Records, Chicago

"Eric Thom"

Guitar aficionados will delight in this displaced Newfie's delightful and slightly demented take on guitar playing. No genre is safe. Obvious talent and an absolutely original approach to having a good time with your clothes on. - Exclaim! Magazine, Canada

"Vicente "Harmonica" Zumel"

(Boobie Browne has a lot of things to say in the musical world, because he has a creative mind that lets him give new things to the blues world. A band to bear in mind. Pay attention to their new work. GREAT.) - La Hora del Blues, Barcelona, Spain

"Brad Wheeler"

It certainly bodes well for the future when a band by the name of Boobie Browne & the Onions shows up on this year's Maple Blues best new artist list.

Montreal guitarist Browne loses points for the last "e" (Charles or Willie Brown is blues; Jackson Browne is not); but he makes up for it by employing Otis Onion III and Orville Onion as his rhythm section. And to top it all off, Browne's in-house and on-stage companion is -- wait for it -- Katherine Heartburn. If only she were blind. - Globe and Mail, Canada

"The Undiscovered"

Fans who love cross-genre and multi-genre guitar music will eat this stuff up. Browne is one of a handful of guitarists who is able to inject a sense of humor into his instrumentals, but it wouldn't work unless the guitar playing was also a cut above. It is. A group of tracks that'll burrow into your psyche like a tick on a moose's neck. - Guitar 9 Records, Raleigh, N.C.

"Eric Thom"

...an incredible two-person show at the Dollar last night. Boobie Browne was spellbinding in his ability to peel off volleys of rapid fire fretwork that most guitarists wouldn't attempt in the privacy of their own washrooms. While, his partner - the red-headed siren named Katherine Heartburn, accompanied him expertly on honky-tonkin' piano as she demonstrated an energy and barrelhouse blues vocals that were just shy of ripping the tits off the Richter Scale. It was a powerful presentation and surprisingly loyal to the original sound of Boobie's "Chickenpickin'" disc- which is quite an accomplishment.
Don't miss the chance to see this guy play. He is Danny Gatton, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan and Chet Atkins rolled into one tall, satin-pant-wearing Newfie surprise. He will go far. He already has. - Silver Dollar

"John Valenteyn"

And now along come Boobie Browne & the Onions with an album of instrumentals with just electric or acoustic guitar, bass & drums a la Ike Turner! A program of ten picking delights that aren't especially indebted to anyone else's instrumentals that I can think of. A CD that proves, at the very least, that the old way is not quite dead. - Maple Blues Magazine

Get ready Quebec. You are about to add another significant element to your distinct culture. I can’t wait to hear what Boobie’s next album will sound like! - Ottawa Blues Society

Bio

Maple Blues Award nominee Boobie Browne is not your typical instrumental guitarist. You will not hear his music over the loud-speaker at Wal-Mart, nor does he wank incessantly just because he can. Well, very rarely, anyway. Rather, he borrows from many genres and throws in a healthy dose of humor along the way, with his distinct finger-plucking sound as the unifying factor.

There's a little funk, some rockabilly, surf, blues, fingerstyle jazz, country two-step, 70's arena rock, and whatever else catches his fancy. Influences include Albert Collins, David Gilmour, Chet Atkins, Duane Allman, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck and Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown. These elements come together on 2002's 'Birth of the Chickenpick', his ten-song debut CD that is gathering great reviews and getting radio play around the world (20 countries at last count). You can hear it on a country show in Australia, a blues show in Spain, or a rock show in Germany. It has also been accepted for full servicing country-wide on the CBC, Canada's national radio broadcaster.

Boobie was picked as a top-five finalist in the 2003 North American Rock Guitar Competition, part of the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival held annually in Buffalo, New York. He placed 4th in a field of great players who were chosen by panels comprised of music educators, musicians and industry representatives, winning some great gear, a nice trophy, and the chance to talk shop with Sid McGinnis from Late Night with David Letterman. The competition was taped by WNED-TV and is currently being broadcast on PBS stations across the continent. Upcoming is a segment on Mako Funasaka's fab series "Talkin' Blues", now in its second season on Bravo TV.

Boobie was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to an extremely supportive family who always dug deep to lend him the money to buy his instruments (and yes, sometimes his supper). He learned how to play on stage with whoever would have him, and eventually became a part of the local hot blues scene.

Now living in Montreal, he is playing around town with his partner in crime Katherine Heartburn on piano and vocals, speaks pretty good French and Spanish, and hasn't had a cigarette in a loooooooooong time.
