Biography

Boobytrap was born in a downtown NYC apartment during the summer of 2002. The five friends shared their musical influences ranging from The Beatles, to Fugazi, to the Cure. They also agreed they didn’t want their all-girl band to fall into the sickly sweet or riott girl categories. And then they picked up their instruments – some for the first time ever – and started playing. Their debut performance was four months later at the Wah Center, a Williamsburg art center.

Ever since, Boobytrap has been delivering catchy jams that you’ll find yourself dancing along to live and singing along to for weeks after. The band has made its mark playing filled-to-capacity shows at NYC’s venues including Luna Lounge, Southpaw, Sin-é, Arlene Grocery, Knitting Factory and Mercury Lounge. And their fans aren’t the quiet type. “Trap it out!” is a common cheer shouted from the Boobytrap crowd.

The band self released its three-song demo in September 2003 and The Boobytrap EP in June 2004, and the songs “Take a Ride” and “Secret Code” quickly made the heavy rotation list on stations like XM Satellite Radio’s Unsigned Channel and Austin’s KVRX. “Take a Ride” was also featured on Spunk Magazine’s first-ever CD of up-and-coming NYC bands.

Boobytrap then holed up in the studio with producer Pete Min (Longwave, Sea Ray) to record its full-length album. The result is One False Move and…, a 10-song debut that takes listeners on a spin – from “Baby Needs’” fast-paced aggression, to “Over and Under’s” power house chorus, to “Someone to Blame’s” sweet vocals and regret. The rest of Boobytrap’s songs have been compared to bands including Joy Division and early Divinyls.

Boobytrap is filming a video with director James Parvin at the end of January. They will bring to life “Never Told,” a sure-to-be-hit filled with infectious pop hooks and melodies.

Boobytrap is growing steadily as a rock group to be reckoned with. Stay tuned for more!
