The best kept secret in music

"Neon Magazine"

“Singer Christina Poletto moves about the stage easily, pulling the audience in with knowing glances and her sultry, seductive vocals…Drummer Janet Hicks and Judy Minn on bass keep the rhythm of the tunes bouncing along so you can just groove to the beat if that’s where you want to be. The involved interplay between the guitars of Frankie Kimm and Mariela Azcuy also kept things interesting. I’m told Boobytrap hasn’t been together very long, but you’d be hard pressed to guess that from the musical repartee the two have going…Boobytrap is a band that knows how to put on a show, from their moniker (wink, wink) to their stage image; and most importantly through the solid set of music they deliver.”
- Neon Magazine, Feb/Mar 2004

"ShortWaveMedia"

“Never has a band been so aptly named. From initial appearances of the band and the seemingly sweet sounds of its music, one would think that Boobytrap is produced from the mold of so many alternative “girl groups” of the past (Go-Go’s, Cub, Plumtree, etc.). But upon further listens, you realize that there is a much darker and wiser edge to this New York City based quintet.” - ShortWaveMedia, Feb, 2004

"EarLash, Ear to the Ground"

“We're not sure if they're the new Belly or a female version of Joy Division,
but they've definitely got something special going on in Brooklyn. Check out
their sexy site and look for them around NYC.”
- EarLash, Feb 2004

"Jenyk.com"

“Rapidly approaching bill headlining territory, the women of Boobytrap have crafted a breezy, crunchy, dancey, and oh yeah, sexy as the day is long sound that as evidenced by the near hundred people in the room when they played, seems to be catching on fast.” - Jenyk.com, Nov 2003

"Jenyk.com"

“Boobytrap has developed a rep as being the cute, kooky, sorta dangerous girls on the block…In addition to the shimmery sound of their songs, in both aesthetics and demeanor they bring a sort of Vacation-era Go-Go's game to the stage. From the silky (mmmm....silk) geisha theme to their graceful smiley self-deprecation in the face of tech diffs, the boobies are the kind of girls you want playing your party.”
- Jenyk.com, Aug 2003

"Crashinin.com"

“Put five girls together and what do the come up with, a Boobytrap? Either way these girls give us a sweet dose of Indiepop/rock with some old rock n’ roll influences.” - Crashinin.com, June 2003

Bio

Boobytrap was born in a downtown NYC apartment during the summer of 2002. The five friends shared their musical influences ranging from The Beatles, to Fugazi, to the Cure. They also agreed they didn’t want their all-girl band to fall into the sickly sweet or riott girl categories. And then they picked up their instruments – some for the first time ever – and started playing. Their debut performance was four months later at the Wah Center, a Williamsburg art center.

Ever since, Boobytrap has been delivering catchy jams that you’ll find yourself dancing along to live and singing along to for weeks after. The band has made its mark playing filled-to-capacity shows at NYC’s venues including Luna Lounge, Southpaw, Sin-é, Arlene Grocery, Knitting Factory and Mercury Lounge. And their fans aren’t the quiet type. “Trap it out!” is a common cheer shouted from the Boobytrap crowd.

The band self released its three-song demo in September 2003 and The Boobytrap EP in June 2004, and the songs “Take a Ride” and “Secret Code” quickly made the heavy rotation list on stations like XM Satellite Radio’s Unsigned Channel and Austin’s KVRX. “Take a Ride” was also featured on Spunk Magazine’s first-ever CD of up-and-coming NYC bands.

Boobytrap then holed up in the studio with producer Pete Min (Longwave, Sea Ray) to record its full-length album. The result is One False Move and…, a 10-song debut that takes listeners on a spin – from “Baby Needs’” fast-paced aggression, to “Over and Under’s” power house chorus, to “Someone to Blame’s” sweet vocals and regret. The rest of Boobytrap’s songs have been compared to bands including Joy Division and early Divinyls.

Boobytrap is filming a video with director James Parvin at the end of January. They will bring to life “Never Told,” a sure-to-be-hit filled with infectious pop hooks and melodies.

Boobytrap is growing steadily as a rock group to be reckoned with. Stay tuned for more!
