"Two for the Show"

Bopology -- Six of the hardest-working musicians on the North Shore, Bopology plays swing music with the greatest of style. The Wilmette-band owes its popularity in part to the swing revival of the late 90's, a time when people all over the nation were starting swing clubs, hosting swing-themed dances and revisiting Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. A new generation of swingers emerged with a passion for dance, and Bopology, playing their hand right, got in on the Chicago swing craze.

Now the group boasts a Duke Ellington sound with the vocal style of the Rat Pack, a fair claim. The band's second album, "Casino Swing," is a thorough compilation of swing and jazz including "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Jump Jive and Wail" and "Fly Me to the Moon," done in the tradition of Sinatra or Sammy, with a vocal manner unique to the band. It's upbeat, stylish swing music performed by able musicians with a clean sound, a recording perfect for late summer soirees that require a kick.

Their recent CD, "Casino Swing" contains renditions of Jump Jive & Wail, Luck be a Lady tonight, In the Mood and others. Having not gone platinum, the band must continue to work ever-harder to maintain their musical edge.

Started on a hunch with an ad in the Chicago Reader (circa July 1992), the band began stylistically as a pure jazz group (hence the name), but has evolved into a Swing and Frank Sinatra sound with expanded improvisational solos by band members. By keeping artistic integrity through individual expression, Bopology has stayed true to its jazz roots without alienating those who enjoy popular songs. With appeal to both the critical listener, casual listener and dancer, Bopology creates their own style.
