Boris Kovac (1955) is a composer, instrumental-ist and multimedia artist from the Vojvodina region, the northern part of former Yugoslavia. He composes music for chamber groups he re-hearses and leads, moreover many of his pro-jects are to some extent connected with thea-tre. During the period from 1991 until 1995 he used to live and work in Italy, Slovenia and Austria.
In 1996 Boris moved back to Serbia, where he led several new projects in which were involved his RITUAL NOVA ensemble, LaDaABa orchest, La Campanella orchestra, Chamber Theatre of Music OGLEDALO, Academy of Fine Skills.
He engaged himself also in the work with students, in order to re-establish the contemporary msic/theatre scene in his country. His ensembles performed more than 500 concerts in about 250 festivals of World/New/Jazz Music in around 30 countries, travelling through 4 continents.
His albums were 3 times in the Top 10 of the European Broadcast Union - World Music Charts Europe. In August 2005 the album World after history reached the second position; the album The Last Balkan Tango was chosen among the best "50 essential albums ever by the popular Songlines magazine.
Boris Kovac got the biggest Serbian theatre prize -STERIJA AWARD for music in the year 2007 for the play Nahod Simeon. In the year 2008 he received the prize for the best music from the Cinema City festival for the soundtrack of the movie Na lepom plavom Dunavu The Beautiful Blue Danube.
His DVD Before and after Apocalypse, received the prize of the German Critics Association.
In the year 2009 Boris composed the music for White, white World, a fiction film directed by Oleg Novk-ovid . This soundtrack got the award from Serbian film Centre (voted by the film critics), as the Best Sound-track in Serbia for 2010, proving that Kovac is excellent choice to compose music for film and theatre. David Yengibarjan was born in 1976 in Yerevan (Armenia). He began his accordion studies in the Yerevan Music School. He moved to Hungary in 1995 where he continued his music education.
He has performed in several stage plays and films. On the soundtrack of the movie entitled Holstein Lovers he played with Ferenc Snétberger, the famous guitarist and composer of the soundtrack, and got acquainted with the brilliant double-bass player József Barcza Horváth with whom he has had a close personal and artistic relationship ever since. He was also the composer of several soundtracks for films such as György Farkas' Vérvonal (Blood Line), András Fésüs' Street, Heart, Beat and András Szoke's Három (Three).
In concert he often plays his own compositions which incorporate a special mixture of Armenian folk music, Argentinean tango and the music of Astor Piazzolla. He has also played in several jazz and folk line-ups.
Accepting several foreign invitations he has played before audiences in Paris, London, Amsterdam, the Terschelling Island, Vienna and at the Edinburgh International Festival. In Budapest he has had performances at the Fonó, Merlin Theatre, Trafó, Szkéné Theatre, Vista and the Matáv Music House.
On May 23-24, 2001 he appeared with Ferenc Snétberger and József Barcza Horváth at the Archa Divadlo in Prague on the Khamaro Roma Festival. Again in Prague, he performed solo on June 23-24 in a stage-play directed by the sons of Milos Forman. On June 25 he played at a festival held in Cologne to celebrate the film entitled Gloomy Sunday, and was accompanied by Erika Marozsán (vocals) and Zsigmond Lázár (violin).
In 1999 he founded Trio Yengibarjan with the aspiration to create a fusion of the Argentinean tango, the "New Tango" of Astor Piazzolla, and various types of folk music. After several changes in the line-up the trio recorded his first CD with József Barcza Horváth on double-bass and Gábor Juhász on guitars.
