Bio

BORN DRESSED is the latest project from Norwegian maverick PAUL GRAVITY, a musical adventure with it’s heart in Norway but feet on a musical road-trip; no baggage allowed, a total collective experience, from the music, to artwork to the stage.

BORN DRESSED is very much a project, with collaborations ensuring that there is room for expression in all aspects of the music, artwork and live show.
There is no embarrassment about incorporating big shiny choruses and musical hooks to die for. Paul openly admits to listening to and enjoying 80’s classic rock and it seemed logical to make his first task with Born Dressed, to create the best possible rock song about the place it all began for him, Bergen.
Hooking up with good friend and fellow Norwegian, Jonas for the project, they returned to Bergen to record the stomping anthem ‘Brostein og Bekkalokk’ (‘Cobblestones And Manholes’) which has become the first track available by the band.
Along with musical collaborators, artist Gurdish’s talents have also been enlisted; creating unique visuals to complement the music both for artwork and the live show.

PAUL HEGLAND’s journey as a musical itinerant began as a rocker in his home town of Bergen in Norway, playing on the debut album by The Clifftones before swiftly moving on to to form The Subtitles and record the album ‘Dive In And Scratch The Surface’. With the end of the millennium looming and seemingly nothing to lose Paul and his cohorts slung their guitars over their shoulders, deciding to to seek success with their music in the UK. After six months of gigging and London life the rest of the band decided to return home but Paul stayed behind to confront the 21st Century full on.

After playing bass with Satellite (Mercury Records) he was one of the founder members of M.A.S.S. with singer Justine Berry. A combination of edgy garage rock and superior song writing, the band immediately found themselves being championed by the likes of Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio One before even having a release. Their debut single ‘Hey Gravity’ was released via Virgin Records and also joined the long legacy of bands supported by legendary DJ John Peel. Paul still regards recording one of the last ‘Peel Sessions’ with M.A.S.S., as one of his career highs to date. Their album ‘Revolution’ included the single ‘Testify’ used as the soundtrack to the Peugeot 303 commercial, before the band split and Paul, Justine and other band members regrouped as Hey Gravity, named after the previous band’s debut.

With HEY GRAVITY!, Paul recorded the album ‘Risen’ in San Francisco with producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers’ ‘Hot Fuss’ etc.). Due to a problem with his passport, Paul nearly didn’t make these sessions after being refused permission to board the flight from the UK to America, resulting in a mad round trip taking several days, from London to Norway and back before arriving at the studio in the US to record the album.
Continuing M.A.S.S. previous success, the Hey Gravity album was released on the French label Dad Records with the band appearing on France’s main prime time music TV show ‘Tararata’ and enjoying radio and MTV success with singles and videos.
