"Botecoeletro made a strong impression on me since I heard it for the first time. I'm glad everybody will be able to listen to it." Marisa Monte
A “Boteco” is the typical street bar of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. It is always a vivid picture of the brazilian spirit and culture. Brazilian folk music, samples, drumming, loops and acoustic instruments: after two years of research, the musician Ricardo Imperatore joined all these elements together to create BoTECOeletro.
Composed from samples of “Jackson do Pandeiro”, the Baianas Mensageiras de Santa Luzia, Radamés Gnatalli and unique mixes created by himself, Boteco Eletro was awarded the "Prêmio Tim de Música 2005" in the category of “Electronic Album of the Year”. "Not only popular, not only erudite: “Brazilianity” is the basic concept of the record", explains the producer who relied on a team of friends to produce his project.
First released in August of 2005, the album had excellent acceptance from the media, as well as the music business and professionals. The dancefloor crowds and audiences the also approved what they heard in the presentations - live p.a. - that BOTECO made throughtout of 2005 in some capitals of Brazil and the world. "I was very nervous one day, in London, when a DJ said that he would play it at the nightclub. When that happened, the crowd went wild. I was so happy that I paid a round of beer for the almot everyone at the bar. I spent more than a hundred dollars!" remembers him, having fun with it. In may of the same year, the Boteco Eletro project was invited by the Government of the City do Mexico to perform at the “Festival de las Culturas”, with artists from 80 countries.
Before releasing Boteco Eletro in Brazil, the musician traveled, in 2002 and 2003, carrying a stack of CD demo and a list of musical producers. During the trip Imperatore got the track “CoconutzMass” to be aired in great radios in Paris, London, Berlin etc. The track also was selected to integrate five international compilations. The track was also included in Eletronic Arts’ FIFA SOCCER 2006 video game.
The first appearance of Ricardo Imperatore in the musical scenario was as the drummer and co- founder of the Band Bel, in 1984. After this, he already toured with Ivo Meireles, Cassiano, and the famous brazilian band Titãs. Moreover, Imperatore made special appearances in the Brazilian tours of artists and bands such as Midnight Oil, Men at Work and Suzane Vega. Since 2001, he started to dedicate full time to the Boteco Eletro project.
He appears in european festivals and clubs since 2007, and will release his new CD in europe in may 2010.
