Biography

On their latest 12” release, Discolite, the chameleons in Boulevard are shedding a layer of their rock ‘n’ roll skin for the elegance of synths and drum machines. With help from some friends (remixes by Dan Geller from I Am The World Trade Center, NYC’s DJ Japanster, and Winston Electric), Boulevard moves further along its trajectory, expanding the band’s influence, sound, and vision. (Available 1/29/08 on Luminal Records)

Boulevard's "Vice & Daring" debuted at No. 8 on the CMJ charts in December 2005 (No. 7 was The Darkness!). In May 2006 Boulevard won the voter's choice Zig Zag Live competition sponsored by CMJ and Spin Magazine, playing a showcase at the Knitting Factory in NYC. Summer 2006, "Vice & Daring" remains in the Top 40 in the UK on SKY channel 0155 and Pulse Rated.

With this kind of response from both fans and the industry alike, Boulevard was drawn to New York City to pursue an even more modern, progressive sound. The upcoming single "Discolite" will be released on 12" limited edition purple vinyl by Luminal Records in winter 2008.

"Proving that innovation doesn’t have to be boring or soulless, Boulevard is a fine example of a band succeeding on pure guts and audacity." Performer Magazine

"Simply put, Boulevard doesn’t sound like a band that just released its first EP in 2004, and Vice and Daring doesn’t sound like a sophomore effort. Boulevard consistently reminds listeners that rock music should be fun, kinetic and larger than life." - Southeast Performer Magazine

"Boulevard sounds as if they're on their fourth or fifth album here as the maturity of the songs and music is its greatest asset…It's an impressive batch of tunes from a band sounding far wiser than their years." PopMatters.com

"Melodramatic and glammy Anglophile jangle by apparent Suede fans from Athens, Georgia. The vocals swish about as the guitars ring out, and the result leaves most American Brit-pop wannabees in the dust."
- Village Voice

"Boulevard's self-released Signal has that whole "Someday, Susie, we're gonna get out of this two-bit town!" energy that befits the band's bouncy, vaguely rebellious and very much youthful pop-rock riffs."
- Time Out New York

Lyrics

Only For You

Written By: Benji Barton

You and I
There was nothing we wouldn't try
No hesitation
Just you and me
In the secrecy of your four grey walls
And you can't decide if it was worth it - to turn our backs on suburban dreams
And you can't decide if it was worth it - to run around with me

But this euphoria that lingers in my veins
It's only for you
Acceleration twisting through my brain
It's only for you
In five years if you find metropolis is still unkind
My heart is strange it's true, oh for you.

Angel stay,
I can see that you're tired of living on the breadline
But someday you'll realize you'll never get the chance again:
Oh we could trespass private property, and lose ourselves out in the country.
And map the landscape of your heart, and take our lives where we really want.

And this euphoria that lingers in my veins
It's only for you
Acceleration twisting through my brain
It's only for you
In five years if you find metropolis is still unkind
My heart is strange it's true, oh for you.

So Electric

Written By: Benji Barton

She came out from the shadows
Androgyne with a halo
Lips wet, eyes tragic
A dark hand leads me thu the masses

Yeah, yeah, yeah
She's moving over me now
She's so electric

There's no sound
The night shudders
She gets her dreams from the gutter
Cheap as me, strange as ever
It's to the stars we'll go together

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
She's moving over me now
She's so electric

Discolite

Written By: Benji Barton

Late from work, I turn the corner
Find you smoking on the stairs
Heaven knows tonight you look like the ragged end of nowhere

Ooh, I'm taking you out tonight
You feel the pulse from underground
It turns you on, it spins you around

So lay it down on the line
I've got an easy way out this time
Just shaking the fear away
And losing ourselves to the night we crave

Here with me out on the fringes
We watch the love brigade go by
Train to train, my head's in shambles
We're on the brink, just you and I
