Last week, the buzz spread like wild fire about the hot new club called The Breaks on Mayport Rd. It was created by Paul Gregg III with rap producer Eric Sadler and former Milk Bar owner Ed Wilson. The place is a unique combination of large billiards hall, art gallery, original modern rock venue on the outdoor patio. Large plasma screens are tuned to hip networks like Fuel, showing extreme sports like skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing. A huge screen in the main billiard hall shows continuous surf films. The place is definately aimed at the youth demographic (18-34) and geared to draw the Jack Rabbits crowd, presenting live cutting edge modern rock.
When I arrived at 9:30 pm, the excitement was just starting to build. A punk metal band called BOUND was setting up to play on the roomy outdoor concrete patio. The band members looked the part decked out in punk regalia with tattoos everywhere, bare skin was visible and numerous body piercings. The lead guitarist sported a spike mohawk, but in contrast, the lead singer was wearing a shirt and tie-yin-yang, hubba.
In the tradition of Rage Against The Machine anarchy, the members of BOUND use only their 1st letter initials as their names. After all, it's the music that matters, not the individual personalities. BOUND is surprisingly tight for a relatively new group, having been together just over a year. Soon the band will be releasing it's self titled debut CD. BOUND'S music drifts more to the metal side of the punk designation, but these cats have toned down the screaming angst that drives punk to break down social conventions. One of the members owns a tattoo shop, which is a convenient way for the band members to get inked, and another owns a recording studio.
For the most part, the band effectively blended it's hard metal sound with the frantic energy of punk in a new and interesting way. In other words, the metal side of their music added more integrity to the punk attitude. It wasn't just some idiot screaming into the mic how much he hates authority. Well, yes, rebellion is part of the punk movement and sound. However, BOUND is a more mature group of real musicians who are fusing various punk and metal elements to come up with an original sound.

Bound is a Southern Punk Metal band from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Having already played with national acts such as Papa Roach, Chevelle, Flyleaf, Crossfade, Hinder, Yellowcard, Candle Box, Powerman 5,000, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Rehab, Hoobastank, and Buck Cherry, Bound is well on there way to cultivatiing a huge following.
Bound's demo was engineered by Sam Rivers (bassist of Limp Bizkit). Driven by heavy guitars and gritty vocals, what sets Bound apart is their message.
