Bio

Though Arizona based indie rock outfit Boxen has spent the better part of 2014 writing and recording their first full length album, 'Young Soul, Old Soul', these guys are far from tired.

Forming in 2013, this isn't the first time around the block for these long time friends. Singer-songwriter Tyler Cox and guitarist Ben Turner formed a friendship and started making music together in the empty band and choir rooms whilst strategically ditching classes during their freshman year of high school. Soon after, Ian DuPiere joined the ranks to fill out the songs with some formidable rhythms. Together they formed the core of their first band, Alaska and Me, a regular in the Arizona indie music scene that shared the stage with Lydia, The Maine, Dear and the Headlights, and The Honorary Title among others. Boxen is the manifestation of a more mature sound, and getting down to the bones of things - tight rhythms, driving, organic drums, and soulful vocals that make you want to sing along.

The songs on their debut 'Young Soul, Old Soul' hearken back to feel-good alt country influences to make each one sound fresh yet familiar at the same time, perfectly capturing all the pangs and possibilities of the tumultuous twenty-somethings. Inspired by 90's staples like Third Eye Blind and The Wallflowers, as well as indie rock from Brand New and The Format, they effortlessly nod to these influences while evoking something that is all their own. Boxen is the soundtrack to nights at your favorite bar, sharing a beer with your best friends and feeling so alive it hurts. Songwriter Tyler Cox has a voice that's raw with feeling, and pours out songs like journal entries such as, 'I can feel the struggle/ It's washing over you and me/ You wanna meet everybody/ I wanna feel everything', making you wonder if he's writing about his life or yours.

While finishing their first album, which will be released December 2014 is exciting enough, Boxen has already begun writing songs for a follow up EP.
