The Cowboy and Pearl

Written By: Brad Monk

THE COWBOY AND PEARL

As a young man in the rodeo
He was the clown in the tuxedo
Every night you know he’d steal the show
He could light it up for sure

Then one day he got the chance to ride
Center ring on top of ‘Suicide’
He rode it hard and he rode with pride
He was the best there ever was

He joined a show that would see the world
That’s where he met and fell in love with Pearl
Right away he knew he found his girl
He said “I’ll never let you go”

They were together while he’d toured the shows
From down in Texas up to Buffalo
He’d broke every bone from head to toe
But it never got him down

Time goes by and you know it will
The seats are full and they paid for thrills
He was hurting but he climbed on still
Just like a cowboy always does

The crowd was shouting when they pulled the gate
A broken strap and a twist of fate
He hit the ground and the help came late
It looked awful bad for sure

He woke to Pearl as she held his hand
His body twisted like a rubber band
She said the doctor said “you’re still my man”
and that’s all they knew for sure

At night they’d listen to the radio
They sang songs together soft and low
She’d sit beside him and they’d move real slow
You know she never left his side.

But heaven’s waiting and it’s time to go
He told his Pearl that he’d miss her so
He held on longer than she could know
Just like a cowboy always does

Rosie

ROSIE

I miss my Rosie my only desire
I lost her two years from June
And though she forgot me in her final hours
I hope that I’ll be with her soon.

Oh lord, please lay me down
Please lay me gently into the cold ground

Her love made me blind like blazing white horses
Running through fields that we made
Then over time and natural forces
Everything’s taken away

Oh lord, please lay me down
Please lay me gently into the cold ground

While time can be treasured time can be cruel
She said, ‘gone is the girl you dreamt of’
So I took her hand and whispered completely
You’re still the same girl I love

Oh lord, please lay me down
Please lay me gently into the cold ground

Now I imagine my lovely young Rosie
Surrounded by heaven’s embrace
And all the white horses carry her swiftly
Returned to her beauty and grace
The smile is back on her face

Oh lord, please lay me down
Please lay me gently into the cold ground
Oh lord, please let me go
I will be with her before you know

Maybe Baby

MAYBE BABY

Maybe baby I was wrong
I never meant to make you cry
Maybe there’s a way
Or something else that we could try

Maybe baby you were raised
For a life more than this
Maybe I could close my eyes
And wake up to your kiss

Now ain’t you strong
And aint you brave
And aint you pretty when you smile that way
And ain’t it true you’re still the same
And ain’t you gonna’ come back some day
You say I’m crazy
Well maybe baby
Maybe baby

Maybe baby you will find
When you sail the open sea
That your state of mind
Will turn your heart around
And bring it back to me

And I’ll be waiting here
Like I’ve always done
Hoping what we had
Is faster than the bad
That you can’t outrun

Now ain’t you strong
And aint you brave
And aint you pretty when you smile that way
And ain’t it true you’re still the same
And ain’t you gonna’ come back some day
You say I’m crazy
Well maybe baby
Maybe baby
