Biography

The Western Philosophers is original music played by 5 amazing musicians that know how to engage and connect with an audience. A typical set includes a powerful hit with roadhouse rockin', boot scootin' fun to a medium tempo thought provoking story to a soft and sensitive 'cryin' in your beer' ballad. No matter how the set is crafted there is an energy that is felt in every song which always leaves audiences wanting more.

Brad Nye: lead singer/songwriter, formerly with Dick Holliday & The Bamboo Gang, Chicago's number one party band, now sets off on a new musical journey with 4 fantastic musicians. Brad has written well over 100 songs in the last several years and has been influenced by Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Boz Scaggs and Sam Cooke. Brad's new musical path goes deeper into life's questions, mysteries and meaning.

Nick Kitsos: drummer, formerly with The BoDeans. Nick knows how to play a song and rock a house.

Alan Berliant: bass, formerly with The Way Moves.

Buddha Slim: keyboards, formerly with Dick Holliday & The Bamboo Gang.

I Hear But I Don't Obey

Written By: Brad Nye

In your world I feel like I’m all alone
We’re both here but there’s no one home
I beg to differ and that causes pain
Again…

You are right, I am wrong
I am weak, and you’re oh so strong
Watch me crumble watch me drink away
The night…

So I’ll pray Lord I need you
Get me outta this hole
Swear I’ll be different
And I’ll do as I’m told
If I could only trust you
Then I’d be okay
I hear but I don’t obey

I go back to a memory
Back to a time
When I was lovin’
And our love was so fine
But somethin happened
Now I just can’t quite
Recall…

So I’ll sit here and blame you
For what could have been
I’ll play the victim of my original sin
Count my blessings baby one by one
And I’m done…

So I’ll pray Lord I need you
Get me outta this hole
Swear I’ll be different
And I’ll do as I’m told
If I could only trust you
Then I’d be okay
I hear but I don’t obey
I hear but I don’t obey
I hear but I don’t obey

Pieces of Me

Written By: Brad Nye

Pieces of me are scattered here and there
Some I can’t even find
Pieces of me baby I wish I could leave behind
I let go cause I had to
Not because I wanted to
We kept on in a losin’ fight
Tryin’ make somethin’ wrong be right
Now this has dragged on way too long
I wish I’d known the mess we’d be
Now I’m doin’ the best I can
Pickin’ up the Pieces of Me

I’ve gotten past the anger
All my fire is out
I pray to God were through
And as we go our separate ways
Part of me will still love you
From a love that hurt more than it healed
All of me is torn and frayed
Now this has dragged on way too long
Wish I’d known the mess we’d be
Now I’m doin’ the best I can
Pickin’ up the pieces of me
Whoa
Doin’ the best I can
Pickin’ up the pieces of me

This One's Gonna Hurt

Written By: Brad Nye

They say it’s better to have loved and lost
Then never loved at all
I swear I never knew just how hard I’d fall
To land here by myself
I can barely speak a word

They say that if you love someone
You should set them free
And if they come back
Then it was meant to be
But I can’t hear that now
It sounds so absurd

I can write your name ‘cross a moonlit sky
Caste my fate to the wind then I’ll
Toss my hat on to resurrection shore
I can change my name
Shun this world
Blame it on that gorgeous girl
But really all I know is
This one’s gonna hurt

I can write your name ‘cross a moonlit sky
Caste my fate to the wind then I’ll
Toss my hat on to resurrection shore
I can change my name
Shun this world
Blame it on that gorgeous girl
But really all I know is
This one’s gonna hurt
This one’s gonna hurt
This one’s gonna hurt
