Bio
Brain Sauce started honing its live show in 2006. Since then they have performed countless shows that have varied from straight up bar gigs (Bobby's Place, O'hanlons, Palomino's) , full scale theater productions, to even hosting clinics at local high schools. The music is laden with guitar licks reminiscent of the Nuge, tight back beats ranging from deep soulfull grooves, raging rockabilly, to 6/8 ballads with a little bit of twang. At times songs are like on-stage confessions (Theme from Antic Hay), others are strange tails of avant garde fiction (Gomer Shuffle) and some are just strictly for the sense of humor (Marijuana Stole my Baby). On stage the band exudes a sweaty rock & roll energy with a dry sense of humor and a tight groove. BS has been known to tour as a seven piece with guitar, bass, drums, synth, trumpet and pedal steel with many solo instruments stepping out for some shredding musical improv.
When the Sauce delved into live theatre the band created a concept show unlike any other. With larger than life floats depicting Manatee's, full clown make up and a variety show containing elements of comedy, poetry, stampede wrestling and vaudeville, Smoke and Mirrors was an auditory and visual delight for all ages. The show was a huge success and is currently being reprised at the Mae Wilson theatre in Moose Jaw with the help of a Sask Arts board grant. The show accompanies their first full length album, "Individuality is an Old Commodity."
"Individuality" was recorded at Jawbone Studios with Eric La France. The album contains nine eclectic servings of Sauce and was released in September 2009. The album features Dave Howard on drums, John Dale on bass and Brodie Mohninger on vocals and all other instrumentation, except Hey Tex which features the Legendary Tex Emery on pedal steel. They are currently recording a follow up album doing what the band calls "road recording". Collaborating with engineers across the country. Stops have included Jawbone Studios, Sound Audities in Calgary and Twisted Pair in Regina. An EP featuring a handfull of the new songs will be released later this year.
