"Brand New Ghost: Blowing Up the Hometown Scene"

There are many factors that define a band and make them great. One of the biggest points is the live performance factor. That factor alone speaks largely of a band, from whether the band’s material translates well live to energy and audience connection. In seeing numerous bands perform something I’ve noticed a lot of times is a direct relationship between a band’s energy and the crowd size. In noting this, I’ve seen that many of the better bands I have watched are completely independent of that relationship. Such was the case with Austin band Brand New Ghost when they performed Friday, July 3rd at The Parish in Austin, Texas.
Yes the crowd was almost nonexistent, but this band’s spirit and passion is too big to let that bother them. Brand New Ghost took the stage under an intense intro track, leaving the audience with no choice but to tune in and listen to what this band has to say with their messaged-filled songs. Without missing a beat, the band hit the ground running hard by powering into the set opener, “My Addiction.” The solid metal sound and high energy of this song lets you know these men mean business and are not going anywhere. Brand New Ghost did not slow down even a little bit until the third song of the set, “The Fight.” Even this song though, had a certain underlying energy and power to it, shown through singer Justin Toler’s obvious passion and conviction of this song, giving it a very defining character. Next in the set was “Rome” which was a showcasing piece of BNG's ability to carefully craft build-ups and break downs in a song. As the night continued on, I was absolutely fascinated watching this bands exceptionally high performance ability. Every element is dripping with passion, from watching Justin working the mic stand very well to the crazy look in the drummers eye as he pounds out the well written drum lines in every song. My personal favorite highlight of the evening was the performance of “Message” which shows a great alternative side to the band. “Message” is undoubtedly Brand New Ghost at its finest, with impressive chord progressions and a characteristic passion thoroughly displayed. The band ended the night as hard and energetic as they started. Brand New Ghost gave a solid performance, and is continuing to progress as a band and strive for bigger, better things. - Renegade Radio

Bio

Brand New Ghost was formed July, 2008 in Austin, Texas. Jason (7 Minute Fall) was briefly in a project called "The Southland Noise Company." Deciding to move on and be a part of something with purpose, he sought the powerful voice of Justin Toler and the solid bass playing of J Birdwell. After several months of writing and rehearsing, Brand New Ghost hit the scene and began attracting fans. Since the debut of Brand New Ghost, the band has shared the stage with artists such as Ember, Sounds Under Radio, Mothers Anthem, Language Room, Project H, The Banner Year, Dremnt The End, Broken Teeth, Feeding 5000 and many other talented Texas bands as well as national acts such as Switchfoot, Delirious, Mercy Me, Kutless, Audio Adrenaline, Third Day and others. Brand New Ghost has toured cities in Texas such as San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Bryan/College Station, Killeen, Austin, Bastrop, and Temple. Ever passionate and ever growing, Brand New Ghost have come to deliver the message.
