Bio
Atlanta's Brandon Russell Jay blends a bluesy, southern swagger with an honest, working class style. The flavors of Skynrd, Waylon Jennings and Tom Petty offer a strong foundation of roots in his songwriting.
After years of sonic exploration in various bands (The Deadfields, Gurufish, The Fiasco, Hit & Run, etc.), the drummer expanded to find his own voice with a guitar and a handful of victories over self-medication and divorce. Armed with faith, identity and purpose, the singer believes “Isolation is the enemy, and music can unite us, even if for just a moment.”
BRJ has gratefully opened for a variety of acts including: Driveby Truckers, Drivn & Cryin, The Steeldrivers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Little Texas, Love & Theft, Col. Bruce Hampton, Big & Rich, Eddie Money, Roberta Flack, Vanilla Ice, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, etc.
The upcoming EP The Good Hand serves a southern portion of observant lyricism, overdriven stringwork and hip-shaking rhythms. The Good Hand marks the beginning of a pivotal new chapter for an upcoming southern songwriter.
