Biography

Brandon Jones has a way with words. He can turn a phrase so well that it belies the youthful enthusiasm he displays in his life and career. While Brandon is an entertainer of the highest order onstage, at his core, he is simply a tremendously gifted songwriter. This exciting young tunesmith hails from Athens, TX and is ready to unleash his songs and soul on the world. An admirer of music from an early age, Brandon’s life path was forever changed when he suffered an injury while on a baseball scholarship in college. As part of his rehab, Brandon, picked up a hobby he’d long wanted to try—guitar. While his arm mended, Brandon found himself drawn more to music than the baseball diamond. At the end of that semester, inspired by people such as Jack Ingram and Randy Rogers, Brandon transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX so that he could immerse himself in the scene he now felt so compelled to join. Each passing day in the new hill country environment led to fresh inspiration and the songs poured out of Brandon. Most performers hone their chops by performing in coffee shops, songwriter venues and guitar pulls. However, Brandon, had greater expectations. His first show ever was headlining the biggest venue in San Marcos, Gordo's. Sold out crowd, backing band of hired guns, and his unfolding career at stake. Brandon took the stage. He was an instant master. All the nights of living room performances, campfire picking sessions and hours of finding just the right words to express his emotions had paid off. Since that first show Brandon has had the honor of sharing the stage with many of the other acts at venues across the state: Cory Morrow, Roger Creager, Jason Boland, Honeybrowne, Bleu Edmondson, are just a few of the familiar names he’s had the pleasure of joining. Ever the perfectionist, Brandon has spent many hours in the studio with renowned producer Kelly Donnely trying to craft the ideal musical landscape to illustrate his candid lyrics. On a whim, he even took a solo road trip to California just to see if it would inspire the final song for his debut effort.

Lyrics

I'd Rather Be

Written By: Brandon Jones

I've got nothin to lose
Cause I've lost it all
Empty bottle of whiskey
and a late night phone call
It's the same old story
everytime we talk
You don't love me anymore
and you want a new start

Chorus:
And I'd rather be in a sad movie
painted in black and white
Then have to act like I don't care
that you're not here tonight
And I'd rather be in Tennessee
a star on music row
Cause maybe then you'd like my songs if they were played on the radio

I'd walk to Paris
with no shoes on my feet
And I'd eat chinese food
everyday of the week
And I'd march through hell
soaked in gasoline
If I came out the man
you wanted me to be

Repeat Chorus

I'd build you a bridge
for the one that I burnt down
Make the world flat again
if you didn't like it round
And I'd dance on the sun
if you asked me to
Girl when are you gonna realize
I'd do anything for you

Repeat Chorus X2

Houston

Written By: Brandon Jones

chain smokin cigarettes
just tryin to forget
all the problems I just left
in my rear view mirror
life was hard in san antone
playin guitar and gettin stoned
I've never felt so alone
as I do today

chorus:
so hey there houston, goodbye san antone
hey there traffic jams, and astros fans
make me feel at home
i packed up all my stuff
but i left my phone
so hey there houston, goodbye san antone

It's nothin but me in this beat up truck
a broken heart and some busted luck
but lately I just feel stuck
and don't know what to think

repeat chorus X 2

Last Song

Written By: Brandon Jones

everyday is a battle
between my heart and my head
lately my train of thought
has been beating my heart to death
and I can't see the past
through bloodshot eyes
but I can still remember
all of your petty lies

chorus:
and I don't care
if your lonely tonight
and I don't care
if you've got someone to hold you tight
and I can't remember baby
who's right or wrong
this is my farewell
and this is your last song

let's reflect on the memories
one last time
cause after this song is threw
I'm exchanging your heart for mine
there was that night in boston
when we made love
and all those times i stood by you
when push came to shove

repeat chorus

they say a melody
brings back a memory
so maybe this song will
strike a chord with you
last chance to see my soul
cause I'm lettin this shit go
and I know i'm better off in the end

repeat chorus

Stars Are Black

Written By: Brandon Jones

maybe I'm just a lil' crazy
maybe I live too loud
maybe I talk too much
never come through in the clutch
and I live life by my own rules

I never whispered your name
I never looked out the window for you
I never took your hand
maybe I lost command
but all we can really control is ourselves

chorus:
and after all this time
you went and found somebody new
then I broke down
and surrendered to the blues
well I'll never think maybe
and I'll never look back
maybe never, is forever
cause tonight the stars are black

maybe I'm just a lil' bitter
maybe I dream too loud
maybe I took too much
never really valued your touch
I guess I should learn from this

and after all this time
you went and found somebody new
then i broke down
and surrendered to the blues
well i'll never think maybe
and i'll never look back
maybe never, is forever
cause tonight the stars are black
and i'm never lookin back

Don't Try To Tell Me

Written By: Brandon Jones

Walkin with a can of gasoline
forget the bridge I'm burnin everything
I just want to play and sing
but they don't want me around
ignore my heart is too much to ask
stuck in nashville with a waylon mask
watchin all my chances pass
and i'm barely hangin on

so don't try to tell me
what it takes to be a man
i've been burned

i've lost my turn
brother i understand

everybody wants what's real
it's different when the cards get dealed
tell me how does it feel
when its staring you in the face
i've tasted heaven and i've lived threw hell
i've spent some nights in the county jail
everyone thinks that i've failed
but i still haven't given up

so don't try to tell me
what you think is right
cause i've followed my heart

right from the start
even if it lead to a fight

i just don't care anymore
if i don't "belong"
you have to be a politician
to write your own song

so don't try to tell me
so don't try to tell me
so don't try to tell me
who i should be.

The Night Is Over

Written By: Brandon Jones

The night is over
They're locking the doors
And I can’t think clearly
Like I could before
So baby close our tab
I’ll grab my guitar
Help me out of this dream
And into your car

And I don’t want the sun to shine tomorrow
And I don’t want the sun to shine at all
I just want to taste your lips
In the dark by the candlelight
Cause if the sun don’t shine tomorrow
I can stay with you in tonight

Life on the road
is wearing me down
I feel lost to the world
But with you I’m found
So baby take me home
Whisper my name
Tonight I don’t give a damn
About fortune or fame

And I don’t want the sun to shine tomorrow
And I don’t want the sun to shine at all
I just want to taste your lips
In the dark by the candlelight
And if the sun don’t shine tomorrow
I can stay with you in tonight

((Key Change))

(Bridge -Breakdown)
You think I drink too much
Your probably right
I live day to day
But I stay up all night
(Build) I know I’m not perfect
Never claimed to be
But that’s how I feel it’s so damn real
When your lying next to me

And I don’t want the sun to shine tomorrow
And I don’t want the sun to shine a tall
I just want to taste your lips
In the dark b y the candlelight
And if the sun don’t shine tomorrow
I can stay with you in tonight

I don’t want the sun to shine tomorrow
I don’t care if the sun don’t shine at all
