Bio

Bios should always be written in the third person. That’s what the musician’s handbook clearly states. But instead of hiring a ghost writer, or putting up the façade that someone else composed this blatant, bloated, pretentious, boastful account, I’m just going to own up, and tell you that I am writing this. Full of myself? Possibly. But who would know better than me?
Where to start? My name is Brandon Kuptz, and I eat, sleep, and breathe music. I write songs and I sing ‘em. I also play guitar, and love to rip out leads in an old-skool, bluesy kind of way. Then I noodle around a bit on keys, bass and percussion, too.
So, my professional musical career starts in a high school garage band in Virginia, somewhere around 1994. Which then evolves into other bands, different members, lots of good times, lots of drama and general rock n’ roll mayhem. But not to discount my tenure in those bands in any way. On the contrary, I got to do some very cool stuff! Played some great venues, opened for tons of national acts. Released two independent CD’s, garnered radio play, won local music awards, and won the hearts of many fans via those hectic touring schedules. And the record companies were beating down our doors, right? Wrong.
Enter Phase II. After hitting a ceiling with the band thing, I felt it was time to strike out on my own. On my own terms, doing the music I want to do, exactly as I hear it in my head. Alright, so I wanted to run the show myself! The best thing to happen to me, or the kiss of death? I guess time will tell……..
So, I love pop music. That’s right, I said it. No, I’m not deliberately trying to be commercial or selling out. Though I may listen to many different types of music, and sway between different genres in my musical creations, they all come out with traits of all things pop. Which means I strive to make all of my songs very catchy, well structured and melodic. I want the listener to take a hook away with them and hum it the rest of the day. I want the listener to identify with my lyrics, and relate them to their own experiences. I just want you to listen, period!
I have no big agenda, and I am not a musical pioneer, trying to reinvent the wheel. I am just a firm believer that there will always be an audience for a great song, from now until eternity! All any artist can ask for, is for people to appreciate what you do. Be it 10 people, or 10,000 people. Please have an open mind, and decide for yourself.
Pet peeve: Writing bios.
