"HitQuarters Artist of the Week 2011/13"

19-year-old rapper Brandon Lockheart from Detroit won't give you ”fairytales of shootouts and champagne” but rather compares himself to Vincent van Gogh. He is available for record, management and publishing deals. - hitquarters.com

"Introducing…teen rapper BRANDON LOCKHEART"

It all started on one of my routine drop-ins at Pearl’s Music Store on Detroit’s eastside. The store manager, Pat, handed me a cd and said, “Here, listen to my nephew”! On the cd cover was a clean-cut teenage dude in a yellow suit wearing shades looking like he was ready to go to his high school’s Home-Coming Dance. So I asked Pat, “What do he do…sing”? She chuckled and replied, “No, he raps but everyone thinks that from the look of the cover”. At that moment, I wasn’t interested in checking out what I had already written off as “whack” without even hearing it, but Pat made me promise to at least listen to one song. Weeks later, being a man of my word, I popped in rap newcomer Brandon Lockheart’s cd and instantly became a fan! - shoptalkmagazine.com

"Featured, Indie Focus- Brandon Lockheart"

Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
I’m from a place we call Southfield, Michigan which is a small suburb just outside of Detroit. That’s my hometown born and raised, funny thing is I don’t ever remember actually telling anyone I wanted to be a rapper. Maybe I wanted to unconsiously but, following graduation from high school my dad set up a mic in my basement for me just to play around with. I end up falling in love with it man, and after that it was history. - wwsmagazine.com

When you listen to his music, you feel something different as well as something genuine. There are no tales of fancy lifestyles, bottle popping, or money blowing. What you experience is an uncensored take on life, love, and the transition of boy to man. The oldest of three, Brandon lockheart comes from a family with a heavy musical background. His father, Howard, produced music for local artists, while his younger sister and brother along with their mother performed classical piano compositions.

Trying to keep up with his family’s hobbies Brandon in fact got his first musical experience when he took up the saxophone in the fifth grade. He later learned that his passion was with something more significant in his life which was a different kind of music. Brandon was a skilled writer from an early age which leads him to write his feelings down and put them to a melody and rhythm. Many of his songs resemble epic poetry rather than your typical hip-hop record.

Lockheart began rapping in august of 2009 along with childhood friend Kris Loyd also known as Lloyd it’s So Easy. Nothing serious was intended, but Brandon found that he truly had a passion for the mic. After an unfortunate event occurred in his life, “The Everlasting EP” took shape. Filled with heavy 808’s and upbeat electronic rhythms, Brandon Lockheart depicts his struggle to find himself and the ups and downs in his life.
