"7 questions with Brandon Mays"

It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen the familiar #25 of Brandon Mays out on the track. After a devastating neck injury in January of 2008, the New York rider made his return at the Winter National Olympics where he won all four Youth 12-15 classes. That momentum was slowed last March where just into the Lake Whitney Spring Classic a hand injury ended his week early. Furthermore, Mays was forced to sit out Loretta Lynn’s this past summer having missed the qualifiers after getting shoulder surgery. Mays, who has made a habit of stellar comeback performances thus far in his career, is poised to make another at the 2010 Lake Whitney Spring Classic. This time, however, it will be in the hotly-contested A classes. Only time will tell how he will fare, but B Mays is ready to hit the track once again.

Professional Motocross Athlete Brandon Mays aka Mayzee, grew up in Lancaster NY a suburb of upstate Buffalo NY. Lancaster, NY and surrounding areas have earned the reputation for breeding, grooming, and launching the careers of some of the world’s best motocross athletes. Following in that tradition, Brandon Mays may be among greatest prospects that Motocross has seen. Accumulating over 500 trophies and 15 National Championships as an amateur, Mays looks to make a huge statement in his 2011 rookie season as one of the youngest professional riders in AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) history.

At the age of ten Brandon won a popular race competition called the Winter Olympics while riding a 65cc dirt bike and earned his first Amateur Pro sponsorship from a company named SPY OPTICS. From that point the young rider and his reputation grew rapidly as more sponsors began to recognize his insane speed and tactical control on the track. He also gained the attention of the top selling and leading motocross publications Moto Playground, Racer X, Pickle, Dirt Rider, Hole Shot Magazine, and Vurbmoto.com where he is still a regularly featured rider.

Music

At the height of his Amateur career Brandon was in a life threatening accident while training that landed him in the hospital with a broken neck, back and punctured heart. In the emergency room, while doctors’ were fighting to save Brandon’s life he actually flat lined into what appeared to be death, twice. The first time he flat-lined for 3 minutes, and the second for 5 minutes. Luckily he was resuscitated.
During his recovery period Brandon had to relearn how to walk and talk. Once he regained those abilities he began to focus his energies on making music, his only other passion outside of motocross. Brandon looked at his own near death situation as a needed break and inspiration for his music. His music often reflects his passion for chasing dreams and making the impossible seem ordinary.
Today, Brandon is fully recovered and preparing to race in his rookie season as a pro on 2011 Super-Cross circuit. He’s also is recording his first professional HIPHOP/POP music compilation set to be released during his Super-Cross season as the soundtrack to Motocross. Musically Brandon is under the guidance of music mogul Melvin Brown (Akon, T-Pain, Lady Gaga) who is his manager and entertainment agent.
