Bio

Born 1980 in Gary, Indiana, Brandon Meeks began his musical journey at the age of nine by studying classical guitar. During middle school he joined the jazz band of Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Gary and taught himself to play the bass guitar. It was during this time that playing the bass became the focus of his creative energy. After high school he began playing jazz, gospel, r&b, and rock music professionally throughout Northwest Indiana and soon moved to Indianapolis in search of broader musical opportunities.

Known for his talent, creativity and professionalism, Brandon has earned a reputation as an excellent electric and upright bassist throughout the region of Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. With his genuinely soulful and organic sound on the bass, he can be counted on to enhance any musical situation. He has performed with various local, regional and national artists including Tim Warfield, Ernest Dawkins, Melvin Rhyne, Rob Dixon, Cathy Morris, King “Fruit Bowl” Reeves, Mike Wade, and Eddie Bayard. Yet with a continuous desire to improve his craft, he occasionally studies with renowned Chicago bassist Larry Gray. Brandon’s musicianship has taken him to some of the most sought after performance venues in the region including The Jazz Kitchen, The Chatterbox, and Eagle Creek Jazz Series of Indianapolis as well as The Blue Wisp and Jazz at the Hyatt concert series of Cincinnati.

Aside from performing with other artists, Brandon has formed his own jazz ensemble which is dedicated to extending the tradition of jazz and creating music that will inspire as well as entertain. The group performs a soul-stirring blend of originals and unique interpretations of jazz standards. Influences range from John Coltrane to Meshell NdegeOcello while the band draws inspiration from everyday life experiences. Today, Brandon Meeks continues his musical journey by writing and performing jazz and working to keep jazz at the forefront of the music scene wherever he goes.
