Bio

Minneapolis. Greenwich Village. Northern California. Austin. Miami, Florida? Not usually considered to be a breeding ground of Americana and Folk-Rock musicians, Miami never-the-less produced one in Brandon Reynolds. Growing up in that multicultural and musically varied environment helped form Brandon’s diverse and poetic songwriting style. That, and his musical influences, who range from Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan, to Tom Waits, Cat Power, and Leadbelly.

Brandon Reynolds started performing in early 2002, while attending the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Florida. Playing live as both a solo-artist, and as part of numerous full bands, Brandon worked his way through the Florida and Georgia bars, coffeehouses, and music festivals that make up the vibrant and burgeoning South East U.S. music scene. It was during this time that Brandon’s musical identity emerged:

“I started out writing and performing these haunting, introspective songs, which were an extension of my poetry writing throughout adolescence, and my studying of Psychology at college. Those songs were subtle, and lyrically driven; often quite difficult to emote to a large, raucous, college bar. I began tinkering with more up-tempo songs, and including the harmonica in my songs. This coincided with a period of my life where I really got into old acoustic blues guys, like Robert Johnson and Leadbelly. This led directly to the type of music I play now. Folk-Rock with a dash of Roots Blues.”

Brandon moved to Southern California in early 2006, and quickly immersed himself in Los Angeles’s underground singer/songwriter scene. Brandon met producer Rob Seals, (Dave Potts, Stephen Jackson, Jon Rajewski, Clare Holley), and subsequently recorded a three song acoustic demo. That led to an increase in higher profile LA music venues, (The Viper Room, Tangier, Room5 Lounge, BB King’s Los Angeles), and to a tour of the southeastern U.S. During that tour in late 2006, Brandon was awarded the 2006 Lyricist of the Year by the SSA for his work.

Brandon Reynolds is currently working on his first fully produced album, (due out in early 2007), with producer Michael Starr. He will be touring nationally in Spring 2007.
