Brandy Maples

BandCountrySoul

I have a little country soul to my music. I would label myself a little Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Rait, Michelle Wright, all mixed into one.

Biography

I'm the daughter of a Mississippi preacher. I was born into a talented and musically inclined home. I attended my father’s church in a small, southern, Mississippi town from the age of two. Music has always been an integral part of my life. As a young girl, singing came naturally to me. I began playing the piano, organ, drums and keyboard for church services, and eventually became the music director and lead singer. Although, I was practically reared in church, this did not stop my wild side from emerging. My rebel spirit would take me to places to hang with people who did not meet my dad’s approval. My passion has always been singing and recording music. I met New York City songwriter/producer, Ken Cedar, who wrote and produced Brandy’s first two songs – Daughter of a Mississippi Preacher and What’s Mine is Yours. The mid-temp Daughter of a Mississippi Preacher describes my childhood experience of being a preacher’s kid, singing in church, living her wild teenage years, and loving music. What’s Mine is Yours is a beautiful 12/8 ballad celebrating a thoroughly devoted love and is destined to become a classic wedding song. I have a wide variety of musical influences and that shows in my singing. My style prompted someone to label her genre Country Soul. It is a style that is instantly recognizable, yet at the same time, very appealing.

Lyrics

What's Mine

Written By: Michael Doane/Ken Cedar

VERSE
I always wondered if I'd find someone
To hold me closely, safely, just me.

When my heart was bare and exposed
You were gentle, I felt safe with my secrets

Ooh, oh, now I know
My heart has a home

CHORUS
What's mine, is yours
For being there when I needed you
It was your love, that helped me thru

What's mine, is yours
For all the times you touched my heart
I never want to be apart.

VERSE
All alone with my foolish pride
I was lonely, hungry
With no place to hide

You saw what no one else could see.....
Now I feel you so deep down inside me

Ooh oh, now I know
My heart has come home

CHORUS
What's mine, is yours
For being there when I needed you
It was your love that helped me thru

What's mine, is yours
For all the times you touched my heart
I never want to be apart.

BRIDGE

Baby, it’s so amazing
That you feel the same way that I do
We started as friends, but now to the end
My love is your love, forever and ever

Repeat CHORUS

Daugher of a MS Preacher

Written By: KEN CEDAR/JON D’AGOSTINO

VERSE
I’m the daughter of a Mississippi preacher
A country girl, mighty glad to meet ya
Well I climbed some trees, skinned my knees, used my share of fake IDs
But when Sunday rolled around you’d always find me
Up front watchin Daddy preach

CLIMB 1
Just tell me I can't and watch me come alive
When that road gets rough, I kick on the 4-wheel drive

HOOK
I’m the daughter of a Mississippi preacher
A country girl, mighty glad to meet ya

BREAK

Well I broke some hearts, round these parts, then the tables were turned (and) I got the scars to prove
Everything goes around (and) comes around baby
Oh yeah, you can take it from me

CLIMB 2
Ain’t nothin (that) can throw me off my stride
When life gets tough, I saddle up and ride

HOOK
I’m the daughter of a Mississippi preacher
A country girl, mighty glad to meet ya

SOLO

From the age of nine, any ole time,
I’d be playin my music, and that is why
If you wanna get on my good side now baby
(All you gotta do is) Come on, sing along with me

Repeat CLIMB 1
Just tell me I can't and watch me come alive
When that road gets rough, I kick on the 4-wheel drive

HOOK
I’m the daughter of a Mississippi preacher
A country girl, mighty glad to meet ya
I’m the daughter of a Mississippi preacher (repeat and adlib)
