BRASSBASTARDZ
Brass Bastardz came into existence in 2003, when saxophonist Alvydas Maciulskis and trumpeter Aurimas Rimeikis began creating music together.
At that time Alvydas was playing in the most popular disco-funk band in Lithuania - "Saules Kliosas" and had a dream to give birth to an acid jazz band. A great chance emerged when he met trumpeter Aurimas.
Aurimas spend his childhood participating in different theatrical projects and he played a lot with different DJ's in various projects. Noticing how music is affected by visuals and visa versa, he decided to use visual effects in their future band. Consequently one more artist Aleksej Merkuljev joined the group. Aleksej created the first video for Brass Bastardz song "Jiemah", which won nominations in Lithuania for "Best debut of the year" along with "Most stylish video" in "TANGO TV awards 2005".
Vocalist of the group - Daiva Starinskaite is also a member of "Saules Kliosas" and off the record is called the best soul voice in Lithuania. Last year she won a grand prix in an international contest held in Lithuania - "Jazz Voices Klaipeda 2005". She has also recorded with trumpeter Ted Curson.
Brass Bastardz successfully combines a variety of styles. Elements of HIP HOP, SOUL, HOUSE, SWING, BIG BEAT, and DRUM & BASS are combined to create a new sound. Brass Bastardz have coined a name for this style: NEW GROOVE ACID JAZZ. To hear the newest grooves, keep an ear out for their new album titled "Sunrise".
