"Jim Gellatly's New Music"

'...gonna leave you with a wonderfully classy slice of haunting beats featuring the voice of Jacqueline Irvine ..or should I say beats featuring the haunting voice of Jacqueline Irvine?... anyway she performs under the name Brave Little Note and I think this is just wonderful' - Radio Magnetic

"Emerging Talent Competition longlist announced"

e are very pleased and excited to announce the 123 acts who've made it to the longlist of our 2011 Emerging Talent Competition. These acts have all been chosen by our blogger judging panel, made up of the UK's finest music bloggers - a massive thanks to them for all their hard work and to all of the acts who entered the competition (we were genuinely blown away by the response).

Each of the bloggers has chosen their favourite three acts, as listed below in the order we received them (where a blog has supplied more than one judge, the name of that judge is in brackets). Particular thanks to Dots and Dashes, Bitter Fingers and The Devil Has The Best Tuna who each judged an extra selection of bands after one judge pulled out. Those selections are the last ones on the list.

We've included the direct link that each of the acts provided for the judges to hear their music - and thoroughly recommend that you check some of them out. Several of the judges told us it was incredibly difficult to pick just three acts (and many of them wrote about more than three on their blogs).

Later this week, these acts will be narrowed down to a shortlist of just 8 acts who will compete at April's live finals for a main stage slot at this year's Festival. They will be chosen by the final judging panel which consists of the following 10 judges: Michael Eavis (Glastonbury organiser), Emily Eavis (Glastonbury organiser), Nick Dewey (main stages programmer), Martin Elbourne (main stages programmer), Malcolm Haynes (Dance Village programmer), Steve Symons (West Holts programmer), Philippa Aylott (Radio One producer), Angus Baskerville (live agent), Paul Charles (agent/promoter/manager) and Chris Salmon (music journalist).

"Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition Longlist announced"

Glastonbury organisers today announced the 123 bands who have made it to the next round of judging for their Emerging Talent Competition.

This comes just days after announcing a further 14 awesome artists to their bill, including Fleet Foxes, Chemical Brothers, Big Boi and Crystal Castles.

To win this competition and rub shoulders with giants like those acts is a great achievement. Being one of the preliminary judges for the competition, Hotcakes can safely say there is a great deal of very exciting potential in this list and it will be very interesting to see which eight bands make it through to the final rounds, once the list is further reduced by the Glasto organisers.

It has been a real honour to have a hand in judging for the best festival in the world! Here are just a few artists that really stood out to us personally.

Brave Little Note is a great chilled electronic artist with a fantastic lead vocalist. ‘Our Romantic Horticulture’ is a well put together track which combines a slow looping drum beat with violins and guitars to great effect.

"Glastonbury Emerging Talent 2011"

While the world (and his dog) are at SXSW, the shortlist of new talent hoping to play at the Glastonbury Festival this year will be announced in the next few days.
We thought it would be a great idea to feature the very best from the Glastonbury 2011 Emerging Talent longlist. It’ s so refreshing to hear so many exciting prospects for the future, today we feature some of the female singer/songwriters.
Look out for more amazing talents throughout this week on Flush the Fashion. We’ll also have the names of the artists that make it on to the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Shortlist 2011 as soon as it is announced. Stay Tuned.
Brave Little Note
Interesting Fact?
Music wise.. I have a rule that whatever flows out has to be accepted. Never try to sound like someone else no matter how badly I love other peoples sounds/stuff.
Personally… erm…I’m obsessed with Kung Fu and train several times a week.. ??
Plans for the rest of 2011?
To keep writing and gigging (and training).. I’m also writing music for Film and TV so that’s very lovely too

"Scotsman Radar Prize: The best of the rest"

Deciding on the outcome of the Scotsman Radar Prize was always going to be painful. Cutting down from over 100 acts to a single winner requires the sort of ruthless slash'n'burn mentality that would make George Osborne squirm.

While there was eventually a level of consensus over the winner, there were several names which cropped up in more than a few of the judges' shortlists but inevitably missed out. From the outset, the purpose of this competition was the exposure of unsigned talent, so here we take another look at some extremely worthy contenders from the longlist...

Brave Little Note - Our Romantic Horticulture

Elaine Liddle: Why? Mainly because Brave Little Note doesn’t sound much like any other band submitted. OK, you might suggest she probably isn’t short of a Bjork album or two. But in a sea of guitars, Jacqueline Irvine’s tripped-out daydream of a song stands out as delicate, fresh, and deserving of attention. - The Scotsman
