Breakerbox

Breakerbox

BandRockPop

A modern day Eurythmics; this Buffalo, New York duo takes modern pop and blends it with a rock/dance edge. With melodic guitars, funk driven synth lines and integral rock drumming supporting one of the best female vocalists heard in years.

Biography

Breakerbox was formed by singer/songwriter Christina DeNee' and drummer/producer Scott Calandra. A modern day “Eurythmics”, the two met in late 2001 at a basement audition for a group Christina was forming in Buffalo, New York. With a purchased plane ticket to Los Angeles, Scott came to the audition to indulge a good friend of his who said he “had to hear this girl”. After the other members left, he asked Christina to play some her songs for him “acoustic”. Sitting on a floor in a dingy apartment Christina belted out a few of her original songs with her guitar. “That’s when I heard “the voice”, but on top of it… she had the songs” says Scott.

Scott tore up his plane ticket, and the two went to work. Taking this to the big time wasn’t going to be easy, coming from a blue collar snow- belt city. They just didn’t fit the mold of the typical band in the area. “The Buffalo music scene is typically super heavy, EMO, or top 40 cover bands” says Christina. “We stood out, but they never knew where to place us”. The two grew together as performers, writers, engineers and producers. Gaining success and a strong following- working with different musicians and touring extensively together in different projects.

However, things changed in 2006, when they formed Breakerbox. They released their self titled EP independently and their songs found playtime on local radio stations, raising both the awareness of the group and the demand for Breakerbox on popular tickets in the area. At the same time, in NYC; their no holds barred live performances started to get them noticed by industry. The band was featured successfully at clubs such as “The Cutting Room”, “Arlene’s Grocery” and “The Continental” which started to get them important meetings. After 2 years of touring the northeast, and releasing a single "Soul to Life" produced by Corey Lowery; Breakerbox took their experiences back home to Buffalo to hone in on their sound, write new material and record and produce their own record.

Lyrically, Breakerbox explores a range of emotion, from feelings of loss, hopelessness and angst to their anthem of reckless abandon, “Lose your Mind” and the satiric content of the hook infested, “Pop Star”- reflecting the lack of integrity in today’s “Reality TV” culture. Intertwining unique funk driven synth work, strong melodic guitar and integral rock drumming; the Breakerbox sound is cemented by Christina’s demanding soulful voice. Producer Scott Calandra’s blend of funk, rock and dance in his mixes gives Breakerbox a totally original, yet relatable sound.

“An album that is heavy in emotion, attitude and musicianship. It is subtle, beautiful and powerful all at the same time.”- Frank Carroll, Billboard USA

Lose Your Mind

Written By: Christina Reilly/Scott Calandra

(VERSE)
I got a fever, and its a damage to my health.
This situation got us achin' now we need a revelation.
So, stop your waiting- you've got to do it for yourself.
Determination is unshakable, you've gotta scream and just let it out.

(CHORUS)
Did you ever lose your mind?
Well, come on baby and feel your way tonight.
Did you ever just lose your mind?
And look up at the stars?

(VERSE)
You've been defeated.
You got your dreams up on that "shelf".
And you got your mind made up that their just treating you rough.
Their spinning you all around now-
Why can't you see that you can never be- everything that they want you to be-
You've gotta scream and just let it out. Let it out!

(CHORUS)
Did you ever lose your mind?
Well, come on baby and feel your way tonight.
Did you ever just lose your mind?
And look up at the stars?
Did you ever just free your soul?
Come on baby, just lose control tonight-
Did you ever just lose your mind?

(BRIDGE)
Look up at the stars.

(CHORUS)
Did you ever lose your mind?
Well, come on baby and feel your way tonight.
Did you ever just lose your mind?
Well come on and lose your mind!

Nobody Gets Me

Written By: Christina Reilly/Scott Calandra

(VERSE)
You know your gonna cry, when you open your eyes.
When your head is down, they'll be no one around.
Because you lost your heart beat- and you sold me, sold me out like i knew you would.
It's a lesson that I, finally realised.

I was waiting for, (just waiting for it)
Just waiting for...

(CHORUS)
Someone to get me, to my heart...to my brain... to my soul.
Nobody gets me, to my heart, to my brain, to my soul.

(VERSE)
You look around, and all you found is becoming your life.
That big house, is your big lie.
And now you've lost me, and your heart is just as cold as a winter storm.
And there is nobody! Nobody understands this like me.

I was waiting for, (just waiting for it)
Just waiting for...

(CHORUS)
Someone to get me, to my heart...to my brain... to my soul.
Nobody gets me, to my heart, to my brain, to my soul.
(Nobody understands, quite like me)
To my heart, to brain, to my soul.
Won't somebody, somebody, somebody....

(BRIDGE)
Get me out of this place, Im leaving you all behind.
You are such a disgrace, the way that you play with my mind-
But, i've got the heart!.....
So wont somebody, somebody, somebody!
Somebody GET ME!

(CHORUS)
Someone to get me, to my heart...to my brain... to my soul.
Nobody gets me, to my heart, to my brain, to my soul.
(Nobody understands, quite like me)
To my heart, to brain, to my soul.
Won't somebody, somebody, somebody....

Miss You

Written By: Christina Reilly/Scott Calandra

(VERSE)
It's been a while since you've been gone.
You've been weighin'on my mind-so i wrote this song.
It's all that i could do-i'm missing u.
Do u know that my wish everyday i wake-is that it's ur face that i see-but instead i'm waiting for u.
It's all that i can do-i'm missing u.

(CHORUS)
I feel these walls are crumblin.
Somehow the world keeps spinnin- can't anybody see what's happening to me?
My world is crashing down- can't u hear the sound of I miss u?

(VERSE 2)
Well here i am.
On my own.
Without u.
Oh-life's not the same.
And there's no one to blame-but i still miss u.

(CHORUS)
Now i feel these walls are crumblin-and somehow the world keeps spinnin-
Can't anybody see what's happening to me?
My world is crashing down-can't u hear the sound?
Of i miss u.

(BRIDGE)
Is there anybody out there?
Can anybody see?
What is left out here to hope for-and how am i to be? When i miss u.

Melody

Written By: Christina Reilly/Scott Calandra

(VERSE)
I remember a time, when things were so simple.
I never hung my head- always looked to the sky-
And my momma said my voice would give my greatness- and I was sure that music could save my life.
I want to go back- when things were so simple.
Do you remember the time? When things were so simple.
Well I remember when

(CHORUS)
When all i needed was a melody, back when the world was right infront of me- when I could be, when I could be- when I could be anything

(VERSE)
When, I could fly sky high. With nothing weighing down my heart, or my mind.
When I could be myself without limitations. Cause I was so sure that music could save my life.
I want to go back- when things were so simple.
Do you remember the time? When things were so simple.
Well I remember when

(CHORUS)
When all i needed was a melody, back when the world was right infront of me- when I could be, when I could be- when I could be anything
When all i needed was my favorite song- and I could sing it all night long, when I could be, when I could be- when I could be anything-

(BRIDGE)
Just drivin on a sunny day- I would love it when "the crew" would play- I would bump it on my radio. And I never needed to worry- I would just turn it up loud, loud, loud.

I want to go back- but, its been so long- and I've been so wrong. Oh- all i need...

(CHORUS)-
All i need, all i need, oh- all i need is a melody.
