Bio

Founded in 1981 as a chamber music group, Ardeleana rapidly became interested in exploring the relationships between different artistic disciplines. In 1984 Ardeleana established A New Kind of Concert series in Toronto, where, over a period of seventeen years, they developed a unique interdisciplinary art form and premiered many works of Canadian contemporary classical music. Ardeleana received numerous awards form the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council to commission and perform new works by Canadian composers during this time.

In 1997 Ardeleana began to expand their repertoire into the world of cabaret, music theatre, and free jazz improvisation. In 2001 they recieved a three year Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant to establish concerts and build an audience for classical music and alternative contemporary art music in York Region. Two opera singers joined the group on a more permanent basis, and Melissa's Song, an innovative children's show by Artistic Director Brenda Muller, was added to their repertoire.

In 2006 Ardeleana continues their work with performers and women composers and tours throughout Ontario with innovative concerts of cabaret songs, classical standards, contemporary art music and poetry
