 Hillsborough, North Carolina, USA
BandRockSinger/Songwriter

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who writes well constructed emotional pop songs, with a vocal delivery that is equal parts hushed Elliot Smith whisper and belted out Eddie Vedder baritone.

Biography

Originally hailing from Boston, MA but, now based out of North Carolina, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brendan Rice creates an intimate sound that finds its way into your head and stays with you long after you've listened. Nowontour.com says, "It's his soulful sound, alluring lyrics, and melodious resonance that moved me...Rice's lyrical cry engulfs your emotions".

With a deep, resonant voice like Eddie Vedder’s and an intimate songwriting style like Elliott Smith’s, Hillsborough, North Carolina’s Brendan Rice bridges the gap between singer/songwriter territory and that of rock and roll. The dusty tracks off the LP Death of a Toy Soldier have the storytelling specificity of Bruce Springsteen’s acoustic folk, but the roots-rock edge of a band like Creedence Clearwater Revival. With blistering guitar solos that express the songwriter’s anxiety or anger and acoustic tracks that ache with romantic regret, Rice has created an intelligent, evocative collection of songs full of masculine vulnerability.

His debut EP, Trial by Fire, boasts a guest spot by Dana Colley of Morphine fame, who contributed baritone sax. Indie-music.com said, “Fans of Radiohead will feel an immediate connection in Rice's weathered (yet soulful) vocal and complex musical arrangements. His lyrics are skillfully woven images".

A multi-instrumentalist as well as a singer-songwriter, Rice also appears on over ten commercially released albums by other bands, including the Boston Award Winning Three Day Threshold. He has worked with an array of big time producers including Nick Peterson who was responsible for mixing Bon Iver's mega-breakthrough 'For Emma Forever Ago" and the legendary Brian Paulson who has produced artist such as Beck, Wilco, Polvo and the Rosebuds.

Vicious Life

Written By: Brendan Rice

spend to much time in rewind trying to find a sign I'll never find/ staring at the ceiling reeling from the feeling that I may be blind/ the sorrow of tommorrow too much to swallow, just seems to leave me hollow/ I don't want to stay so I run away but the tragic play just follows/ it happened before it'll happen again please don't try and pretend my friend/ some thoughts are bought put down and never got, so don't be the one to be overcome in...this vicious life, this vicious life, this vicious life bound to get you before you die/ some got wealth while others got health just depends on what you're dealt/ no man can plan or try to understand when the iceburg's gonna melt/ even king kong wasn't so strong that he could take it for very long/ because emotion in motion can be a deadly potion when it's mixed all wrong/ there is confusion in the illusions, the many that reach us/ but it takes the face of grace to be able to teach us in... this vicious life, this vicious life, this vicious life bound to get you before you die

Lonely Palace

Written By: Brendan Rice

I could speak of a thousand years/ but the message would still fall on deaf ears/ 'cuz it takes a train wreck to tell/ to get it all out, to scream and yell/ You build a wall around you, putting each stone in it's place/ until you're surrounded and left with just your face/ You deal your misery so easily as if it were just a deck of cards/ so that every one around you too can play their part/ you dole out silence as if it were just a dollar bill/ and try and stay awake amidst the landscape with a fistful of sleeping pills/ you build a wall around you, putting each stone in it's place/ until you're surrounded and left with just your face/ you just give away the pearl as you drown in your own world/ you can blow your horn with orders to salute and get in line/ but this soldier doesn't want to fight anymore because he just discovered sunshine/ I lay my weapon on the ground you can have this crown/ because I finally realize that this land isn't part of my plan/ you build a wall around you, putting each stone in it's place/ until you're surrounded and left with just your face

Standstill

Written By: Brendan Rice

you better come to your senses man while you still can/ nobody gonna believe you to be true till you do/ the room is filling up with shards of glass/ you're just waiting for the moment to pass/ you're lost in reflections/ and the mighty question of direction/ got you waiting for a moment to shine/ when you'll find your space in time/ just looking for a little peace of mind/ you dream of diamonds buried deep in your mind/ but are to afraid it's coal you'll find/ so you sit there smothered in your apathy/ another chance lost to complacency/ you are lost in reflections/ and the mighty question of direction/ got you waiting for a moment to shine/ when you'll find your space in time/ just looking for a little peace of mind/ you better find some change for the pay phone on the corner/ because indecision is coming and the water ain't getting any warmer/ better call for help, while you still have something left/ Because the only thing worth fighting for is the opportunity to see more
