A Good Distraction EP (2006)

Feeling a bit camera shy

Mining the depths of the insecurities and disappointments that we all feel at some point in our lives, Brendan Shea writes and sings about things that most of us don’t even like to admit to ourselves, let alone say out loud to a crowded room. A refreshing new brand of singer/songwriter with the heart of a rocker and the soul of a poet, Brendan Shea delivers haunting melodies and memorable sentiments of twentysomething angst with a roots - rock punch and an alt - country flair that is destined to earn him acclaim far beyond the confines of the slick, polished pop scene.

In 2005, Shea began playing the clubs in and around his native Buffalo, NY with the band he formed, “The Switchbacks”. The revolving - door rhythm section saw members come and go, but “Shea‘s songwriting skills and stage presence quickly made it clear that he could carry a show on his own.” (Artvoice) In the spring of 2006, Shea recorded his Good Distraction EP, and by the end of the year he was captivating audiences as a solo performer in more intimate coffee shop settings throughout Western New York. Early in ‘07, Shea produced and headlined an acoustic showcase at Mohawk Place, “Buffalo’s premier live music club.” Shea’s knack for “keeping things lively” while “baring his soul to a live audience” (Artvoice) has proven to be a winning combination, and a second staging of the event is in the works for the coming summer.

With plans to follow up his highly praised EP with a full length album, Shea is hopeful that 2007 finds him in the studio, and on the road. For more information, please visit
