Biography

Mining the depths of the insecurities and disappointments that we all feel at some point in our lives, Brendan Shea writes and sings about things that most of us don’t even like to admit to ourselves, let alone say out loud to a crowded room. A refreshing new brand of singer/songwriter with the heart of a rocker and the soul of a poet, Brendan Shea delivers haunting melodies and memorable sentiments of twentysomething angst with a roots - rock punch and an alt - country flair that is destined to earn him acclaim far beyond the confines of the slick, polished pop scene.

In 2005, Shea began playing the clubs in and around his native Buffalo, NY with the band he formed, “The Switchbacks”. The revolving - door rhythm section saw members come and go, but “Shea‘s songwriting skills and stage presence quickly made it clear that he could carry a show on his own.” (Artvoice) In the spring of 2006, Shea recorded his Good Distraction EP, and by the end of the year he was captivating audiences as a solo performer in more intimate coffee shop settings throughout Western New York. Early in ‘07, Shea produced and headlined an acoustic showcase at Mohawk Place, “Buffalo’s premier live music club.” Shea’s knack for “keeping things lively” while “baring his soul to a live audience” (Artvoice) has proven to be a winning combination, and a second staging of the event is in the works for the coming summer.

With plans to follow up his highly praised EP with a full length album, Shea is hopeful that 2007 finds him in the studio, and on the road. For more information, please visit myspace.com/BrendanShea

Lyrics

agoraphobia

Written By: B. Shea

I've made up my mind to cut all of my ties
Here behind the curtains i've got to survive
'Cause i can't count on anything outside these lines
And i worry 'bout being lost or left behind
And since i've got nowhere to go
Truth is i'd rather be alone
I'm scared with anyone around
And that's why i don't bother with the world outside
And i'll just wait around for it to pass me by
Because you can't trust people they'll only let you down
I hope that they don't look for me to come around because i won't be there
I'm not crazy i don't care what those people say
They'll find out in time that it was their mistake
When every open end leaves them with empty hands
Me at least in here i know right where i stand
And since i've got nowhere to go
Truth is i'd rather be alone
But i'm scared when there's no one around
And that's why i don't bother with the world outside
And i'll just wait around for it to pass me by
Because i don't trust people they always let me down
But I know that they won't look for me to come around because i won't be there
They know i won't be there

face the cold

Written By: B. Shea

I'm not selfish i'm just frightened
Happy endings oh i know there's no such thing
When you ask for more than anyone can bring
Saw this coming wish you'd given me more time
I can't move on while you're leaving me behind
Stay with me summer it's too early to head home
Please just promise me that you won't ever go
Our days are fading and i just can't face the cold on my own
I'm not selfish i'm just frightened
You're the only one who knows
You're the only one i told
How can i ever let you go
When you're the only one who knows
So it's over all my ambition is gone
And i'm broken i must be the only one
Saw this coming still i hoped that things could change
Everything i have is taken away
Stay with me summer it's too early to head home
Won't you just promise me that you won't ever go
Our days are fading but i just can't face the cold on my own
I'm not selfish i'm just frightened
