BandFolkAmericana

Singer-songwriter Brenda Rogers captures the spirit and heart of writing “real” songs about “real” life. Armed with an acoustic/electric guitar, keen observational skills and the voice of an angel, Rogers delivers an engaging blend of original folk, rock, country and blues.

Biography

Brenda Rogers has experienced life from both worlds of the urban West Coast and the rural Canadian Prairies from where she currently hails from. She began her musical career at the tender age of 5 when her father received a guitar to payoff a $50 debt. Professional training included un-practiced guitar lessons for one year when she was nine, and a one-year music college program when she was twenty. Now, she is the guitar teacher in addition to performing and writing music. When asked about influences, she cites the MTV Unplugged concept and anyone who was ever a part of it. In a live setting, she has a knack for captivating any audience with her natural charm and wit. With her (optional) trademark table top "Music Menu" Brenda Rogers becomes a solo virtual jukebox as the crowd dictates the evening's play list.

Till My Ears Ring

Written By: Brenda Rogers

Till My Ears Ring

Some day I’ll plant a garden, and can some jars of salsa for you
One day I’m gonna tan in the sun, underneath that sky so blue
The office work can wait ‘til fall, when it’s too cold to go outdoors
But for now I think somehow, we’d rather be out melting smores

The clothes outside won’t dry in time
That’s why they’re hangin’ on a line
The weeds can grow and the sun can set
My mind’s made up and I won’t regret
The time I take each day to sing
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring

I don’t know how you do it, you work so hard each day
Fixin’ cars in that shop of yours, I know that we’ve got bills to pay
I thank God I found you, and for the freedom that you give
For lettin’ me be who I am, in the harmony I need to live

CHORUS
(add chorus ¾ progression)

Someday I’ll plant a garden, while you’re fixin’ all those cars
Or maybe I’ll just keep on playin’, tunes on my guitar
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring
And play my guitar ‘til my ears ring

Party Like A Rock Star

Written By: Brenda Rogers

Party Like A Rock Star

I party like a rock star, with my Tak guitar
We all drive beat up cars, but we party like rock stars
We don’t need Hollywood, to know that we rock the world
We don’t need to be movie stars, ‘cause we party like rock stars

When it’s get’n near closin’ time, and last call’s been said four times
Everybody says, “Let’s have another round”
We’ll have one more drink for you and me, send a tray of shots for table three
Everybody says, “Where’s the party now?”

Chorus

Now ya feel that late night energy, that kicks in ‘bout half past three
As we laugh – the night away
When the night has come to an end, we thank ourselves for such cool friends
And share a big hug – as we say goodbye

Chorus

Kick it up – Pick it up – Check it out – Deck it out
Be a star – Who you are – Even in your beat up car
Glam it up – Ham it up – Laugh it out – Shout it out
Get a groove – Make a move – Don’t bother takin’ off your shoes

Chorus

Grow

Written By: Brenda Rogers

Grow

I had a phone call the other day
She told me it would be a 45-minute survey
When asked if I was yellow, brown, black or white
I told I was neither, but tanned and a little pink from the sunlight

And from what race did I come from
I told her the human race and laughed when I asked
What planet did you fly from
I know I’ll never get some things in life
But someone told me under skin you’re all the same inside

Maybe I drink too much with a smoke in my hand
I know I stay out too late
And I’ll never understand
Why I do things I should never do
Like falling in love with you
But a spirit is a bird, it has to fly free
A wild seed that has to grow free
And if I could just touch another one’s soul
And help them grow, grow, grow

Many have read a book that we’ve all heard of
It talks about long ago times and a world of peace above
Well many of those readers thought they’d make their own rules
While others lived in poverty while they built a house of jewels

Maybe I say too much, when I should bite my tongue
I know I’ll never change those ways
But when I’m old I’ll feel young
Why I do things I should never do
Like falling in love with you
But a spirit is a bird, it has to fly free
A wild seed that has to grow free
And if I could just touch another one’s soul
And help them grow, grow, grow
