Bio

My name is Brendon Beckmann, most of my friends call me "SICK".

My parents bought me my first set of drums when I was in the 8th grade. It was a red Percussion Plus set with a hi-hat and 2 crashes. It was set up in my room and played every now and again just for fun. But, when I heard Slipknot's "Surfacing" in 1999, music completely entombed my life, I new then, there was no other direction for my life but music.

In late 1999, I had my first drum lessons. The lessons lasted for about 2 weeks. I just couldn’t stand learning the same 1, 2 beat over and over, so I decided to start learning real music on my own. Jazz, Rock, Metal, Hardcore, everything, I loved it all, no one could stop me.

My father was my real music instructor. Being a jazz, & classic rock musician he taught me how to feel music, how sometimes simpler is better. I started my first band in late 2000, it was called SIDIRIAL. Just like every kid I was having fun. We played together for a few years just playing around. We recorded an EP and played a bunch of shows, but like I said, I was a kid around 13 or 14.

The vocalist and myself got together and formed a band called Among the Sick. It took almost 2 years to get a final line up together, but we did it. We played some of the biggest and best shows around, playing with international artists Dimmu Borgir, Nevermore, and Children of Bodom, and U.S. artists like Dry Kill Logic. It was great! During this time I never forgot what music was really about and Love, "if you don’t love what you’re doing you should just stop"!

It was around this time that I started studying drums with drummer Dan Lamagna of "Suicide City, Sworn Enemy and Sebastian Bach". I started to learn theory, what an actual rudiment was, before this I just listened and played, always self taught. Time went on and ATS broke away from each other. I ended up joining up with ATS's brother band, Remains of the Fallen.

Within 2 months of joining the band, we played almost 20 shows, including winning the semi-final and regional finals of the Global Battle of the Bands! We were flown to California to perform at the renowned Key Club where we ended up coming in the top 5 in the country. After playing to that sold out crowd, the next evening we headlined the world famous Whiskey a Go-Go on the sunset strip.

On our arrival home we ended up with another headlining slot at New York’s famous CBGB’s, playing the CD Release Party for Roadrunner records recording artists, Dragonforce. During the course of the evening, I was asked if I could fill in for the drummer of Dragonforce who was not able to come into the country, due to reasons unbeknown to us. So, on a 20 minute notice I filled in for them and played a great and fun set.

At this point in time, I am currently still working with Remains of the Fallen and doing some session work. I have also just grabbed myself an endorsement deal with the Turkish company, Turk Masters Cymbals. They will also be producing my first signature China cymbal coming out within the next few months. All in all it’s been a good 7 years for me. Just always remember, “IF YOU STOP LOVING IT! THEN JUST STOP DOING IT!”
