Whispers In The Woodwork

Whispers in the Woodwork ©Brennagh Burns 2012

I was told that relief would come with the light of morning
But you keep me up all night
And by the time the dawn comes breaking through these windows
I’ll have given up the fight

Well they said your ghost would leave by the light of morning mmmmmmm
But something don’t feel right
I hear you whispering through the woodwork
Shift and settle with an ominous sigh

Baby you’re gone but you won’t leave me alone
No you won’t mm

Well I was certain I’d warm up with the light of morning
Feel her ease away the goosebumps from my skin
But, I can feel your hands, they’re closing fast around my neck
And I’m chokin’, baby I’m frozen

You’ve been gone so long but you won’t leave me alone
No you won’t mmmm

Well babe it don’t seem right, that after all of this time, all my grieving and pain
When you’re the one who walked away, stripped these halls and shook your claim
But still your memory holds on
You’re holding on and on and on and on and on and on and on
You’re holding on

I was told that relief would come with the light of morning
But I won’t make it through the night
And by the time that stubborn dawn comes breaking through these windows
Well you’ll have won the fight

I’ve been waiting so long, for you to leave me alone
Oh I’m falling apart, just don’t think I can go on,
Shed this skin and flee these bones

Baby I’m gone
Mmmmmmmm
Looks like you’ve won

When It All Comes Down

When It All Comes Down ©Brennagh Burns 2012

Well I guess that I can’t place all of the blame on you
There were things that we both could have done that we chose not to do
Paths they will stray, chemistry, it fades
Irrelevance claims all the faith that we placed in the promises we made
And here I stand

Trying to hold on to something, that’s already let go of me
Trying to let go of something, I’m so desperate to keep
And it’s killing me

Well I guess that I can’t place all of the blame on me
There were signs that we both could have read but chose not to let ourselves see
Hearts they will stray, intensity it fades
All the reasons to stay have become all the reasons to find your escape
You leave me here

Trying to hold on to something, that’s already let go of me
Trying to let go of something, I’m so desperate to keep
Oh darling can’t you see

It’s nearly killing me
You’re killin me

Mmmmmm

Stasis

Stasis – Standard Tuning G ©Brennagh Burns 2010

I’ve been walking around here in circles
Now the tread’s wearing thin on my soul
With no end in sight I’d say the camel’s back’s about to break
Well there she goes

My poor friend Sisyphus, he never could have made it up that hill

Feeling helpless against all this pointless momentum
Kept driving him forward to get nowhere fast
Restless immersed in a state of inertia
Stuck there in stasis he knew, he’d never get past

I’ve been swimming around in this ocean
And I’m getting no closer to shore
With no land in sight, I’m afraid I might sink
to the depths of its merciless floor

But wise old Odysseus, he knew, he would find his way home

So he harnessed the strength of that pointless momentum
To drive himself forward and get somewhere fast
Fighting against all this constant inertia
Knowing the stasis he faced couldn’t last

If he carried on fighting
So I’ll carry on fighting yeah
I can’t sit her waiting forever
No I won’t stay here fading

No I’ll take all of this pointless momentum
to drive myself forward and get somewhere fast
Stuck in this state of unwavering inertia
Oh I’ll never last I’ll never last

So I’ll take all of this pointless momentum
To drive myself forward get out of here fast
Stuck in this state of unwavering inertia,
Oh I know I’ll never last
I’ll never last

In Through Your Window

In Through Your Window ©Brennagh Burns 2012

Late night, walk home, downtown's a glow.
Frost nips, wind blows streets white with snow.
With each step anticipation grows
Eyes meet, hearts beat, darlin' here we go.

Running, jumping, laughing, tugging playfully away.
You chase me through the streets and up your fire escape,
In through your window cause the front door's locked...and you forgot,

But there ain't no stopping us now,
we're in too deep, we've lost our heads, we've gone too far,
You get into me.
You get into me.
You get into me boy

Slide in, boots off, soaked my hairs a mess.
Oh but you don't care, clothes tossed, it's time to get undressed.
And oh you kill me with that smile of yours,
Breathe deep, eyes wide, pressed against your chest.

Learning, loving, whispering, touching playfully away.
Here in your arms smoking cigarettes on the fire escape.
In through your window in a room that's built for two, I see me and you.

But there ain't no stopping us now,
we're in too deep, we've lost our heads, we've gone too far,
You get into me.
You get into me.
You get into me boy

Instrumental break
Whoa-oh-whoa-oh-oh

But there ain't no stopping us now,
we're in too deep, we've lost our heads, we've gone too far,
You get into me.
You get into me.
You get into me boy

Whoa-oh-oh-whoa-oh oh x 4
