Brennen Burleson, a hip-hop artist from La Porte who graduated from Westville High School in 2013, also said that facing criticism is important. Artists should consider trying to readjust to appeal to others. The criticism can be an inspiration for more work
He gave the example of performing at a bar in New Jersey and not knowing that the time for all ages had past. Just he and the normal bar crowd were left, and they did not like his music.
Burleson then wrote a song about doing things that seem foreign to others.
"So I made a positive about what someone could have seen as so negative," he said.
However, he also said that support from family, friends and staff at the school were important. He started as a garage musician and now has been on the radio and will be in two upcoming TV shows.

La PORTE — Shortly after graduating Westville High School in the spring of 2013, Brennen Burleson was in New Jersey chasing down information on a new recording studio opened by one of the members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
A rapper since 2007, Burleson was looking for a professional space to crystallize his vision, and a steady hand to help guide his musical endeavors.
Although he eschewed some of the conventions in mainstream rap albums, such as the use of swear words, he wanted to work with a professional established in the business. And he was led to the door of RoadsArt, a producer associated with Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Now Burleson has his first professional recording and an EP he’s ready to market.
“We just needed some official music to get me out there so I could start promoting myself…” he said. “Not that stuff recorded out in the barn or my own house, just something official, marketable.”
Under the title “My Asylum,” the album is a five track EP featuring anthems, hardcore hip-hop and danceable songs. - Herald-Argus Newspaper
