BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

Brent is a songwriter and solo performer - if you want a REAL connection to the audience, literate and unique songwriting and spontaneous live moments of magic, listen to this man!

Biography

Since the release of his first album HEAD FOR THE HIGH GROUND in 1992, Brent Mason has established himself as one of the most prolific and literate songwriters in the Atlantic region. In October 2008 Brent released his 7th album - BOTH KINDS OF MUSIC - to base of fans who have enthusiastically embraced this new song collection as possibly his best yet.

Brent comes by his reputation as a tenacious writer and performer honestly. He has played over 100 shows a year for the past decade, touring the region as a solo act as well as with his band. His music has taken him to the UK for three tours, south of the border to Oklahoma and Missouri, as well as to Ontario and Alberta. During the course of his career he’s been fortunate to share stages with a veritable who’s who of Canadian acoustic music - Murray Mclaughlin, Valdy, Barenaked Ladies, Matt Minglewood, Laura Smith, Bob Snider and Lennie Gallant to name but a few.

In 2001 he was nominated for an ECMA as solo Roots artist of the year. In 2007 he was honoured with the Stompin’ Tom Award for his contributions to the Atlantic Music scene. Over the past few years Brent has devoted much of his energy to his solo show and now has developed it to a point where he can perform in almost any context - small venue, club, soft seater or festival stage and come away knowing he’s reached new fans with his music. He’s become especially experienced in the songwriter circle format, where his wit and charm help create an excellent chemistry on stage. Poetic, polemic and sometimes political, Brent is an excellent addition to any musical event.

Lyrics

gretzky and me

Written By: brent mason

1971 I was on a line with the great one
gretzky and me under the same sun
not a clue what we'd become
we were 10 years young

we won it all in the spring
then he went on to bigger things
stanley cups and golden rings
i stayed here somewhere in between
or so it seemed

CHORUS: There's stars in the heavens
Theres' stars down here
Close your eyes, you seeethem everywhere
Wish on one and laugh wish on one and cry
Wish on one a star's a sun that's shining
Shining for your eyes

I played til it was time to hang 'em up and get in line
I took a job I gave a valentine asking her
Will you be mine? in 8 months time
And the calendar pages flew/Every month all the bills come due
We wanted 3 kids but we've got two
When we lost the first only the doctor knew
Janey still gets blue

CHORUS:

Me and the boys still play when it gets cold enough for the ice to stay
The wives and kids come and we skate all day
A little rum keeps the chill away and it's all OK

I watched it on TV when he retired I wished that it was me
but I've got time to do in the factory
It all starts to happen naturally once you let it be

CHORUS:

drink em handsome

Written By: brent mason

saturday night just sittin' around/moon coming up and the sun going down/time to get busy get your feet on the ground/ice in the glass i love that sound
CHORUS:line 'em up toss 'em back we're going out dancin'
a little luck a lotta liquor- gonna drink' em handsome

any guy can look good just give him a chance
knock back a double and ask him to dance
soon the marlboro man rides in of the ranch
gotta love the way he fits his pants

Ch

Bridge:marguirita straight tequila bud lite - I don't care
a jug of that juice and soon I'm lettin' down my hair
The boys at the bar are looking better by the drink
If you think you've had too much- don't think

At the ring of the bell they yell last call
You grab another round of alcohol
Don't let him stumble, don't let him fall
Gotta get him to the door before his engine stalls
